J OSEF OATHREIN, OF TUNSBRUOK, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
BOLT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,628, dated May 16, 1893.
Application filed December 10, 1892. Serial No. 454,721. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEF CATHREIN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and
a resideutof the city of'lunsbruck, in Austria- Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Locks, of which the following is a specification. r
This design relates to a door lock which can be unlocked from any place of a IOOlIl for instance from the bed or from the table by means of a cord.
The accompanying drawing shows an internal View of this door look.
In the casing A a lever B is pivoted which at one end is connected to the bolt 0 and at the other end to a Weight D. A cord E is secured to this weight passing out of the casing and leading to any desired place of the room where a weight F is attached to the same. The weights F and D are so calculated with reference to the frictional resistances that both weight-s F and I) remain stationary in any position, but that any movement of the weight F produced by hand causes a corresponding movement of the weight D, the same as in some lamp suspensions. The weight D is so arranged with relation to the fulcrum of the lever B that it holds the same in the position indicated by full lines in which the bolt does not lock the door as long as the weight F is raised, but when the weight F is drawn down it turns by means of the cord E the lever B into the position indicated by dotted lines in which the bolt looks the door. The bolt is therefore home as long as the weight F at the point of a room, the combination with the weight F, and cord E passing over elevated supporting pulleys, one-end of said cord connected to said weightFandthe other end connected to the weight D and adapted to raise In a door lock to be operated from any given the same, of the weight D pivotally attached a to one end of the curved lever B, the curved lever B pivoted near its central portion to the casing E, having a stud at its upper end to engage a lug on the upper side of the weight D, and being forked at its lower-end to engage a stud on the bolt or latch C; and the bolt or 'latch C projecting through holes in opposite sides of the casing E; the said weight D, lever B, and bolt 0 all being arranged within the casing E, and operating'substantially as and for thepurposes described.
. In testimony whereof I have affixed mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
