SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,972, dated May 9, 1893.

Application filed January 16, 1393. Serial No. (N0 modem .T0 at whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MALCOLM FRISEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lingoes for J aequard Mechanisms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in lingoes or heddle weights for Jacquard looms.

it consists in bending the upper end of a flat strip of metal into a head, and in providing said head with two apertures connected by a slot in such a manner, that the heddle may be readily attached to or removed from the head without tying or untying the cord.

It consists also in the arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of the improved lingo, attached to a heddle. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 illustrates the lingo, when the head is flattened out.

In the drawings 0. represents the body of the lingo, preferably made out of a flat strip of metal, the upper end of which is bent over so as to form the neck 0 and head (1. The

bent over portion or neck 0 is perforated by an enlarged aperture 6 and has an upwardly extending slit f,terminating in an aperture g at the top of the head (1 of the lingo. The said aperture g is of smaller size than the aperture c.

In operation the heddle m or other cord is knotted at its lower end, as shown as h in Fig. 1; said knot being of a size to allow its free passage through aperture 6. The portion above the knot enters through slit f, and the lingo is then lowered, until said knot rests against the sides of the aperture 9.

When the heddle or cord is to be removed from the lingo,the latter is slid up on the heddle or cord until the knot it has cleared the slit f and the aperture 2, when the heddle or cord is slipped out through said slit and aperture.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A lingo or weight consisting of a flat strip of metal bent at its upper end down upon itself to form a head, said head having two apertures at different points in the length thereof and connected by a slot, substantially as described.
