UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLIFTON E. KREBS, OF BALTIMORE, vMARYLAND.
HOOK."
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 601,267, dated March 29, 1898.` Application led December 30, 1896. Serial No. 617,489. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CLIFTON E. KREBs, of Baltimore, in the `State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in hooks; and itconsists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as hereinafter set forth,
and pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawing represents an embodiment of my invention. y
A represents my improved hook, which is A piece of Wire is bent upon itself and the free ends bent to form eyes a a, whereby to attach the hook to a garment. The wire is so bent upon itself as to form a loop b, and the wires are bent at a point in rear of said loop so as to form a hook c. One part of the wirev is bent outwardly and downwardly from the other part, so as to form a loop constituting a tongue d, which terminatesin close' proximity to the hook c. Thus it will be seen that the hook c and tongue d form an elongated opening e, in which the eye B can have free play. The eye can be inserted into the opening e between the hook c and tongue d, the wire being sufficiently yielding on account of the manner in which it is bent to permit the passage of the eye B between said hook c and tongue d.
When the eye shall have been inserted, its escape will be elfectually prevented by the near approach of the hook c to the tongue d.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an article of manufacture, a hook com-- posed of a single wire bent to form the loop b and the tongue d, that portion of the wire between the loop and tongue formed in two strands one immediately in rear of and in contact with the other and all parts of the wire'in one and the same plane, the loop b and tongue d being ieXible and yielding and the portion between the said parts reinforced by virtue of the two immediately-adjacent strands of wire.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses. Y
CLIFTON EKREBs.
