GARBAG E-VESSEL.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 496,917, dated May 9, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE E. SWEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Vessels, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a garbage vessel, of such construction that the garbage or refuse deposited in the same will be allowed to drip or drain itself into the lower part or receptacle of the vessel,s o that the arbage or inaterial in the vessel proper will be in a measure dry enough to burn ;,and my inventionicollsist'soin the features and details ofconstruction hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective elevation showing my improvement; Fig. 2 a plan View of the receptacle proper lobking at it from the bottom; Fig. 3 a sectional elevation of the lower receptacle; and Fig. 4a plan view of the same, looking at it from the top.

In making my improved garbage vessel, I prefer to make it in two main portions, A and BA the receptacle proper and B the lower portion into which is loosely fitted the upper portion, in such a manner that it can be easily removed from the same. The upper portion A is a bucket of any usual or desired shape, having the usual cover a, and I prefer to make it slightly tapering toward the bottom, which loosely enters the lower portion or base B, but is held from striking the bottom of the same by the lugs O, which are securely fastened to the sides of the lower portion. The bottom D of the bucket has a series of holes, through which water or moisture contained in the garbage may easily drip into the lower receptacle. The lower portion or receptacle B can be made of any,desired shape-round or squareto loosely contain the upper portion, and can be provided with handles E, by which it can be easily lifted from the ground and moved from place to place.

Itwill be seen from the foregoing descripall the moisture, water, 650., will fall into the A lower receptacle and be separated from the garbage, so that thevsame can be readily and easily consumed by fire.

My improved garbage vessel, constructed as above, is well adapted for use in connection with a kitchen sink, under which, it may be placed, and from which it may be removed as desired. The liquid matter may be emptied in the sink and carried off by drainage, and the solid matter being thus rendered sufficiently dry may be burned in an ordinary stove range or furnace. I thus provide for the ready collecting and burning of garbage in an ordinary range, stove or furnace, the liquid matter being eliminated and removed by drainage;

and, in this respect, as well as in others, my improved garbage vessel differs materially from the ordinary garbage boxes used in connection with sewers or gutters.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a garbage 'vessel', the combination of a main portion for holding the garbage provided with a series of holes in its bottom, a lower portion adapted to inclose the lower end of the main portion for a short distance, the two portions fitting together easily and being separable from each other and one portion being provided with lugs to regulate the distance which the main portion enters the lower portion,the whole,or either portion,beingadapted to be moved from place to place, substantially as described.
