UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDVARD B. WARREN, OF H OT SPRINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ORLANDO FERGUE'SON, OF SAME PLACE.
AWNING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 493,954, dated. March 21, 1893.
Application filed November 7, 1892. Serial No. l.231. (No model.)
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled'in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in awnings for window and door frames and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully descriloed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawiugs Figure 1 represents a perspective view of an awning constructed in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a side View of the same;
In the said drawings the reference numeral l designates a window frame and 2 the awning cover.
The numeral 3 designates the side arms of the awning frame and 4 the horizontal arm which may be made integral or they may bc made separate and then secured together as may be found convenient or desirable'. The inner ends of the arms 3 are bentat approximately right angles forniing lugs 9. These arms 3 are pivoted to brackets 10 secured to the frame l, and the lugs are provided with pivoted links 8, which engage with notches 5 in the brackets 10, when the awniug is let down. By this means the awning frame is securely locked in place when let down, but can be easily unlocked by disengaging the links from the notches when it is desired to raise the awning.
I'Iaving thus described my invention, I claim is- In an awning the combination With the frame consisting of the horizontal arm, the side arms having their ends bent forming lugs, the brackets to which said side arms are pivoted, having notches formed therein and the links pivoted to said lugs and adapted to engage with said notches, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myown I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
