UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FLOYD .HEAVENER, OF HELENA, MONTANA.
Tl E-H O LD ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 492,202, dated February 21, 1893.
Application filed May 12, 1892. Serial No. 432,742. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FLOYD HEAVENER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Helena, in the county of Lewis and Clarke and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in neck-tie holders, and the invention consists in the construction of a spring clamp adapted to be clamped upon the lower edge of the collar to securely hold the neck-tie in position on the collar to prevent its riding up or slipping down, both while adjusting it in place and while being worn, all as more fully hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a collar showing my improved device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a cross section thereof on line to as. Fig. 3 is a detached elevation of the holder A is a collar.
B is a neck-tie having the usual collar band 0 adapted to be placed around the collar being secured in front to the tie in any desired manner.
It is a well known source of continuous inconvenience and annoyance to gentlemen to have the collar band of the neck-tie slipping down over the top of the collar and it is practically impossible without some securing device to put on a neck-tie and not have the collar band work its way up. My invention is intended to overcome these difficulties and at the same time to accomplish it by an inexpensive construction which is not only efficient in holding the collar band down but also prevents the neck-tie from working its way around to one side.
My invention consists of a bifurcated spring clamp having the arms a b, preferably made of a spring piece of wire and bent with a spring coil 0 centrally thereon. In their normal position the two arms are held tightly together at their upper ends by the tension of the spring coil. The parts being in the position shown in Fig. 3, the upper ends of the arms (L b are bent outwardly to form the guide flanges d.
In order to place this device upon the collar the operator holding the tie and collar clamped together engages the upper end of the spring clamp with the lower edge of the collar and tie and quickly pushing it upward the tie and collar will be clamped together; the upper ends of the arms a b will press the tie against the collar and not only prevent slipping down or up but also preventits accidental movement around the collar, and yet it will not prevent the proper adjustment of the necktie to the front by moving it with suflicient force.
What I claim as my invention is A necktie holder, consisting of a single piece of metal having two substantially V-shaped jaws touching at one point only, formed with outwardly extending flanges at their upper ends and bent centrally to form a circular spring coil, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof IaffiX my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
' FLOYD I-IEAVENER.
