' WITNESSES INVE N 70/? $5 ma v 21,, 'ATTOHNEYS STATES PATENT SAMUEL JENKINSON, OF ROCHESTER, ASSIGNOR T THE VANDERBILT SASH BALANCE COMPANY, OF OANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK.
SASH-CORD FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,966, dated February 14, 1893.
Original application filed November 2, 1891, Serial No. 410,574. Divided and this application filed August 11, 1892- $eria1 No.
442,752. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL J ENKINSON, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and 5 useful Improvements in Window-Sash Tape or Cord Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following'to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part [0 of this specificatiomand to the reference-numerals marked thereon.
My present invention has for its object, to provide a simple and cheap device for securing the sustaining tape or cord to window sashes, and it consists in an improved construction hereinafter described; the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my tape fastener; and Fig. 2 a sectional view of the same, showing its application to a window sash.
Similar reference numerals indicate similar parts.
My fastener is composed of a single piecepreferably of cast metal having a body portion 1 in the form of a plate provided at its inner end with a downwardly projecting semicircular web or flange 2, and near its outer 0 end with a corresponding upwardly projecting Web or flange 3; and beyond this with a loop 4. for the application of the sustaining tape or cord 5. In the present instance this loop 4 is adapted for the attachment of a tape 3 5 and projects a very short distance beyond the edge of the sash; but it is obvious that it could be made larger so thatasash cord could be readily applied, which cord would as is usual lie in a groove in the edge of the sash.
The flanges 2 and 3 are as stated, rounded so that they will fit into the usual auger holes 6 in the sash, and the edges are preferably somewhat sharpened so that they will biteinto the top and bottom thereof when the weight of the sash is upon the tape and prevent the accidental outward movement of the fastener. Unless this outward movement is prevented, the fastener might work out and marthe window casing, and interfere with the proper operation of the sash.
In applying the device to a sash, it is only necessary to place it in the aperture in the sash and attach the tape; or a cord could as well be attached by varying the shape of the loop on the end of the device as will be understood by those skilled in the art.
This application is a division of an application filed by me November 2, 1891, Serial No. 410,574.
I claim as my invention 7 6o 1. The fastener or attaching device for window tapes adapted to be inserted in an aperture in a sash, composed of the body portion. having the upwardly extending flange or web near its outer end, and the downwardly extending flange or web near its innerend, substantially as described.
2. The fastener or attaching device for window tapes adapted to be inserted in an aperture in a sash, composed of a body portion. having the loop at its outer end, the upwardly extending web or flange also near said end and the downwardly extending flange or web near its inner end, substantially as described.
SAMUEL JENKINSON.
