UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.-
FRANCES CARTER, OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 4,915, dated January 1,1847.
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCES CARTER, of Washington, in the county of Rappahannock and State of Virginia, have invented certainy Improvements in the Apparatus or Truss for the Cure or Relief of Prolapsus Uteri; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full and exact description ot the same, reference being had Ato the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the combiningoftwo uterinesupporting-pads with au abdominal and adorsal pad,orwith either of them, in such manner that they (the uterine supporting-pads) shall act upon the pelvis on each side of the labia for the purpose of giving equal or better support to the uterus than can be given by the single perineal pad generally made use of, and of obviating the objections thereto,such as inconvenience in the use, injury from moisture, dac.
In the accompanying drawing, A 1s a dorsal pad, and B is an abdominal pad. These are united bythe belt E, and may be constructed in any Well-known or usual manner. l
F F are shoulder-straps attached to the belt E. 1l is a buckle for securing the belt around the body.
C C are the uterine supporting-pads. D D are straps attached to the uterine pads. h h are stay-ears attached tothe lower edge of the abdominal pad, at each end of the n same, to which the uterine supporting-pads C C are made fast by stay-strings or in any other convenient manner.
g g are stay-ears attached to the dorsal pad, to which the straps D D are secured in any convenient manner.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The making use of two uterine supportingpads C C, arranged in such a manner as to act on the pelvis each side of the 1abia,'and also their combination with an abdominal and a dorsal pad, or with either of them, substantially as herein set forth.
