VAPORIZBR.
No. 488,530. PatentedDeo.'20,1892.
Arron/v5).
THE NORRIS PETERS co; Pyomuruo WASHINGTON. n. c,
Unrrn STATES HENRY PITT ROBERTS, OF JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO FRANK M. FERRIN, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
VAPORIZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,530, dated December 20, 1892.
Application filed March 19,1892. Serial No. 425,596. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY PITT ROBERTS, of Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaporizers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the sam e, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in devices for vaporizing deodorizers or disinfectants.
The object of the invention is to provide improved vaporizer whereby a disinfectant or deoderizer will be quickly and thoroughly vaporized and distributed throughout the atmosphere of the room or other inclosure.
A further object of the invention is to cheapen the cost of construction and produce a vaporizer exceedingly strong and durable and composed of a minimum number of parts, and which will most effectively and perfectly perform its work.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in combinations of parts morefully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a side elevation of the improved article. Fig. 2, is a front view thereof. Fig. 3, is a cross section.
In the drawings reference letter 01., indicates a reservoir adapted to contain any suitable deodorizing, disinfecting or air purifying liquid which is volatile or readily vaporizes. This reservoir has the top or closure b. The reservoir preferably (although not necessarily) consists of an ordinary jelly glass with a tin top. However of course the invention is not limited to such use, although it is sometimes preferred for cheapness. A suitable frame is provided'to support this reservoir and partially inclose and protect and support the same and to partially form a reticulated or perforated casing extending above the reservoir U-shaped in form and to provide means whereby the device can be rigidly secured to at the top and bottom by means of which the the wall or a support. This frame preferably consists of the two castings or vertical sections 01, e, formed at their lower ends to fit opposite sides of the reservoir and to partially inclose and hold the same. The lower ends of the two sections meet, or approximately meet beneath the reservoir. The two castings or sections of frame extend parallel above the reservoir in the form of open loops. The two castings or sections of the frame are secured by bolts 9, passed through perforated lugs of the castings as shown clamping the castings firmly in position on the reservoir. Sheets of reticulated metal 72., are located between the portions of the sections extending above the reservoir so as to form an inverted U-shaped casing or passage having the two parallel inner and outer reticulated walls, as clearly shown. The reticulated sheets fit in grooves or behind flanges of the sections so that they can (not) slip out. The outer sheet can be secured at its ends to the clamping bolt as shown, if desired. A wick 1 is passed through said casing between the reticulated sheets with its ends extending down through openings j, in the closure or top of the reservoir so as to extend into the liquid in the reservoir and absorb the same so that the wick will be kept saturated with the liquid. The air passing back and forth in contact with the wick will vaporize the liquid therein and the vapor will be properly diffused throughout the atmosphere. The top of the cover is provided with a central opening having a screw threaded neck and a cap I. The reservoir can be filled through this opening by removing the. cap. The rear section or casing of the frame is provided with perforated brackets m,
0 device can be rigidly secured in position to 9 the wall or other support.
This invention is very simple and yet is strong and. durable and effectually accomplishes the end in view.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. The vaporizer consisting of the reservoir, and the open or inverted U-shaped frame or casing extending above the same and having reticulated or open walls, and the wick extending through said casing with its ends extending into the reservoir, substantially as described.
2. The vaporizer consisting of the reservoir, 5 the sectional frame embracing and supporting the reservoir, and extending above the same in open loops, the reticulated sheets clamped between the sections of said frame forming an inverted U-shaped reticulated 1o casing, means securing the sections of the frame together, the wick extending through said casing with its ends in the reservoir, and 7 means whereby the article can be secured in position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as I 5 my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY PITT ROBERTS.
Witnesses:
JAMES P. PRINCE, CHARLES W. BACON.
