. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLAUS JACOB SCHWEIM, OF GLUOKSTADT, AND WILHELM SOHWEIM, OF KREMPDORF, GERMANY.
C U R RYC O M B SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,291, dated December 20, 1892.
Application filed September 7, 1892. Serial No. 445,261- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that we. CLAUs J AOOB SoHwEIM, of Gliickstadt, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, and WILHELM SGHWEIM, of Krempdorf, in said Kingdom and Empire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ourrycombs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this improvement is to provide for the easy and expeditious cleaning of the metal combs of the curry-comb. This is efieoted by arranging nearthe combs lateral plates of metal which leave the teeth of the combs free for the currying but are movable with respect to the combs or the combs movable with respect to the plates so as to permit of hairs and other matters adhering to the combs being stripped off and so removed from the teeth of the combs.
The annexed drawings show a curry-comb made according to this invention Figure 1 being a section through the comb in the direction of the handle, showing the combs themselves protruding beyond the aforesaid side plates. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the side plates projecting beyond the points of the teeth of the combs. Fig. 3 is a back View of the currycomb. Fig. 4 is an end View thereof.
The metal frame B is fixed in the handle A and carries on its under side the transverse plates e e e of which each pair forms between its two members a narrow slot 3 in which lies one of the combs K which are fixed to the outer frame D. The combs K are movable in the slots .9 and when in use for currying their teeth project beyond the edges of the plates 6 e as shown in Fig. 4?, so that the tool may be used in exactly the same way as curry-combs already in use.
The Withdrawal of the combs K may be eifected by a mechanism as hereinafter deengage at p in the outer frame D which carries the combs K, while the inner bows of the parts H H are thrust outward by a spring or springs such as the spring f (Fig. 3), the end of which is attached in the handle A. By making one of the bows overlap the other at its center and prolonging the former back toward the handle A, the person holding the tool may with his thumb or one of the fingers press down the bow H and thus also the bow H which will draw up the frame D and cause the combs K to recede within the slots 8 so that all matters adhering to the combs will be scraped off by the plates e e.
If it is desired to construct the tool so that the combs remain stationary While the plates 8 e are moved, this maybe done by fixing the frame D to the handle A in place of the frame B which is then left loose.
What we claim as our invention is:
In a curry-comb, the combination with the combs K, of lateral stripping plates e e, a frame carrying said combs and a frame carrying said plates, one of said frames being connected to a handle A while the other is movably supported by wire bows H 11', adapted to be operated as described, together with a spring or springs for maintaining the frames in a position whereby the combs protrude beyond the plates, the whole for the purpose set forth.
