OZRO PRENTISS JOHNSON, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
CHAMBER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,747, dated December 13, 1892.
Application filed July 8, 1892. Serial No. 439,392. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OZRO PRENTIss J OHN- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Chambers; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in chambers, the object being to provide an article of this description which shall be noiseless in use. To this end I carry out my invention as hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sect-ion of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view.
I carry out my invention as follows:
A represents a chamber, which I construct with one or more inwardly-inclined sides, as shown at a, one of the sides being so shown in the drawings. I prefer that the inclined side should project inward into the chamber about one-third of its diameter and midway its top and bottom, the inward projection and inclination beginning near the top and extending inward the desired distance, the side receding outward on a downward inclination toward the bottom of the utensil. The inward and outward inclinations may be suitably curved, if desired. The inwardly-inclined side at its inner edge is preferably made rounding, as shown.
B is the handle, which for convenience may be located adjacent to the inwardly-inclined side a, the inclination of the side inward assisting to form the loop a between the handle and the side of the chamber. As so constructed the handle will not project so far outward as is customary, allowing thus a chamber to be formed more compactly. The upper portion of the inwardly-inclined side, it will be seen, forms thus a ledge inwardly projecting from the side of the chamber to receive the urine, which flows noiselessly down over the edge thereof and along the under side of the inward projection to the bottom of the vessel. By locating the handle on the same side as said ledge its location is indicated, also, thereby, which is a matter of convenience.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A chamber constructed with a side projecting inward on an incline intermediate the top and bottom of the chamber, forming an inwardly-projecting ledge, substantially as set forth.
. 2. A chamber constructed with a side projecting inward intermediate the top and bot- 'tom of the chamber, forming an inwardlyprojecting ledge, and a handle located adjacent to said side, the inward projection forming a portion of the loop between the handle and side of the chamber, substantially as set forth.
3. A chamber constructed with a ledge projecting inwardly on an incline to an inner point intermediate the top and bottom of the chamber, said ledge carried downward from said inner point and terminating at the base of the chamber, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
O. PRENTISS JOHNSON.
