Description

(No Model.)
H. J. MOHME. ROPE GLAMP.
No. 487,287. Patented Dec. 6, 1892 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY .I. MOHME, OE SIGOURNEY, IOWA.
ROPE-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,287, dated December 6, 1892..
' Application filed April 19, 1892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. MOHME, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Sigourney, in the county of Keokuk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope-Clamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my device is to provide a rope-clamp that will have a firm hold on the rope, gained by pressure only. It is so designed that it will not cut or slip on the rope. There is no twisting or sharp corners to hold the rope, which are the objectionable features met with in most other devices.
It can be more fully seen hereinafter that my device can be used on a wire or hemp rope or metal rod, or in fact anything of this nature. The device is so constructed that the greaterthe strain the greater the pressure will be on the rope through the interlocking parts of my device.
Like letters of reference in the drawings indicate corresponding parts in each.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my device in full. Fig. 2 is a view showing the two interlocking parts of my device. Fig. 3 is a view showing the fulcrum of the levers of my device.
A A are two interlocking parts, made of wood or metal, each having on its outside edge the shoulder B. The inside of each of the parts A A is provided with a longitudinal semicircular slot or groove 0. Along this slot or groove 0 is a series of two or more transverse projections F, extending at an angle from the groove 0, and enter corresponding depressions G on the opposite piece or part, which is made to receive them.
E is a brace or two cross-pieces, on the ends of which the levers D are pivoted.
D are two levers, the end of the arm of which is provided with a perforation d for a rope or link. The other end of the levers D Serial No. 429,773. (No model.)
are pivoted to the brace E. The periphery at the pivoted end of each lever D is enlarged at its under side, forming a fulcrum, which presses the two interlocking parts A A together.
Having thus described the diiferent parts of my invention, it can thus be seen that by inserting the broken end of the rope that is to be tightened into the slot or groove 0 of the interlocking parts A A, the parts A A are pressed together by the pressure of the fulcrum of each lever, the other ends or arms of the lever being pulled together by the rope which is attached to them, thus causing an increased pressure at the fulcrum of the levers when the strain on the end of the levers is increased. It can also be seen that the rope at the end of the lever-arms runs to one point, thus drawing the ends of the levers nearer together with increased strain.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a rope-clamp, the combination of the two interlocking parts A A, each provided with a semicircular slot or groove C, with two or more transverse projections extending at an angle from the groove 0, the corresponding depressions G, the brace or cross-pieces E, and the levers D, enlarged at the under side of their pivoted end, forming a fulcrum for pressing the parts A A together, and provided with an eye at the end of their arms, all substantially as shown and described.
2. In a rope-clamp, the parts A A, each provided with a longitudinal groove 0, with two or more projections F, each of the said parts having two or more depressions G, adapted to receive the opposite projections in each of the opposite pieces, the braces or cross-pieces E, and the arm-levers D, enlarged at the inner peripheries of their pivoted ends, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY J. MOHME.
