URINAL ATTACHMENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,130, dated November 29, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE SOHOEN, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Urinal Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide an improved attachment for urinals which will exclude from theoutlet-apertures all solid matter that would tend to clog the urinal, the attachment thereby enabling water to be kept continuously running without danger of overflowing.

A further object is to enable the attachment and urinal to be conveniently cleaned, and, finally, to provide for properly holding soap or other disinfectant or detergent, all as hereinafter particularly described, and defined in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a perspective view of a urinal provided with my improved attachment. Fig. 2 is a top view of the attachment removed from the urinal and on an enlarged scale, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 3 3 in Fig. 2.

1n constructing an attachment in accordance with my invention a frame A, of wire, preferably, is fashioned to fit within the urinal B, such frame in the instance shown being substantially triangular and adapted to fit in about the horizontal position in the urinal. The shape will be dictated by the internal contour of the urinal. The frame A is intended to be permanently held in place or at least intended for removal only for repairs, and there is attached to it by suitable hinges a or any other connection a second frame 0, which is covered with netting C or equivalent open-work material, which forms an effective strainer for excluding any solid substances, the netting and its frame being adapted to be raised on the hinges a for permitting cleaning of the urinal and attachment and being adapted to be locked when in the lowered position by any suitable lock 0'. The

netting O at about its center is made to support a depending box-like structure D, which is also made of netting or other open-work, the top frame (I being secured to netting O. The box D serves as a receptacle for soap, disinfectant, or the like. The receptacle D is closed by a hinged cover D, of netting, the frame d of which is locked by any suitable locking device 61 to the frame (1.

It is my intention in practice to appoint men to keep the several attachments provided through a city or district clean and supplied with the necessary disinfectant. By preventing the clogging of the urinal the flushing-water may be kept continuously running without danger of overflowing, and by movably supporting the strainer in its frame provision is made for maintaining it in a clean condition.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. The herein-described attachment, comprising a frame adapted to be received in a urinal-bowl and a strainer movably held to said frame, substantially as described.

2. The herein-described attachment, comprising a frame adapted to be received in a urinal-bowl and a strainer movably held to said frame and formed with a receptacle for soap, 850., substantially as described.

3. The combination, in a urinal attachment, of a frame adapted to be received within a urinal, a second frame hinged thereto and covered with netting, a lock device for the same, and a depending open-work receptacle supported from said netting and provided with a hinged cover, substantially as described.

4. The combination, with a urinal, of a strainer arranged therein a distance above the outlet-aperture for the purpose specified and carrying an open-work receptacle for soap or disinfectant, substantially as described.
