N. SEVIER. MILK STO OL.
No. 487,099; Patented/Nov. 29, 1892.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFIC'".
MOSES NIMROD SEVIER, OF VERNON, TEXAS.
MILK-STOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,099, dated November 29, 1892.
Application filed April 20, 1892. Serial No. 429,911. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, Mosns NIMRoD SEVIER, of Vernon, in the county of Wilbarger and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Stools; and I do hereby declare the following to be afnll, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in milk-stools; and it consists in the novel features of construction, which will be fully described hereinafter, and more particularly referred to in the claims.
The objectof my invention is to provide a stool of new and improved construction which is provided with a shield for protecting the Inilker from being kicked and which is also provided with a shelf for supporting the pail in a position convenient for the operator and also in close proximity to the cows bag.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, a perspective view of my improved stool will be f0und,which illustrates fully my invention.
A represents a bar or board of suitable length, and secured to its outer end in any suitable manner is the stool or seat B. Extending across the under side of the bar A, preferably at an acute angle thereto, is the portion 0, and from the angle formed by the extended ends of these portions A 0 projects vertically the two-sided shield D, which when in use projects around in front and'on the side of the animals leg. Secured to the front side of this shield is theshelf E, and arranged immediately above it is the hook F, and the pailresting on the shelf, with its bail secured to the hook, it will be seen that it will be held in the desired position and prevented from moving therefrom. A block G is arranged beneath the outer end of the bar A, of the same thickness as the bar 0, so that the stool will stand in a level position.
It is obvious that when the stool is in use the shelf E extends toward the cows head. By crossing the bars A and C at an acute angle it follows that the shield D, confined between the ends of said bars, also forms an acute angle. From this arrangement it will be understood that with the bar C and shield side secured thereto extending in line with the cows side the outer seat-supporting end of bar A will be thrown forward toward the animals head. By thus arranging the seat in relation to the shield the position of the operator is not one .facing squarely the cow, but rather facing diagonally the point of operation above the shelf. This affords the operator easier access to the cows bag than though he faced squarely the same, as in the latter case the animals rear leg would be in his way.
The stool is very simple of construction and is most useful in milking cows that have a tendency to kick.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a milk-stool, the combination of a bar, a stool on the outer end of the same, a laterally-projecting bar secured to the first-named bar near its forward end, and a shield arranged in the angle formed by the said bar ends, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a milk-stool, the combination of bar A, transverse bar O, arranged at an acute angle to bar A,a two-sided shield secured in the smaller of the angles formed by the said bar ends, a shelf secured to the said shield, .and a seat-standard at the rear end of the bar A, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MOSES NIMROD SEVIER.
