H. BLLIs.
INHALER.
No. 486,951. Patented Nov, '29, '1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY ELLIS, OF RAMSGATE, ENGLAND.
INHALER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,951, dated November 29, 1892.
Application filed August 8, 1392. Serial No. 442,511. (No model.) Patented in England Tune 24, 1891, No. 10,759-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known thatl, HENRY ELLIS, machinist, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at 30 August Road, Ramsgate, in the county of Kent, England, have invented an Improved Appliance for Conveying and Distributing Vapor into Rooms from Kettles and the Like, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 10,759, bearing date June 24, 1891,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in providing a long tube or spout similar to what is fitted to bronchitis-kettles, and one end thereof being cut to an acute angle, it is fixed to the margin of an elongated hole made in a fiat disk or plate suitable for placing upon the lid-opening of a kettle or the like, which plate is kept in .position by a wire loop fixed underneath the plate, which loop presses upon the inner edge of the lid-opening. The outlet end of the tube is made to receive loose nozzles suitable for inhalation, or which will contain medicated wool or the like.
To show clearly how my invention is carried out I furnish drawings.
Figure 1 shows the upper side of plate a, with tube 27 and loop cl. 0 c are thin pieces of the plate, which can be easily cut away, so as to allow the handle to fit into the spaces so made. This contrivance enables the same apparatus to be used with kettles of smaller size. Felt or other suitable packing 9' may be attached to the plate by means of paperfasteners 2'.
Fig. 2 shows the under side of plate a.
Fig. 3 shows a form of nozzle suitable for inhaling. This may be fitted with a perforated diaphragm at f.
Fig. 4 shows another form of nozzle with perforated end 9. This form is suitable for containing medicated wool or the like.
Fig. 5 shows the kettle with. plate, plain or telescopic tube, and nozzle e.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A portable appliance to be attached to kettles and similar articles, consisting of a tube fixed to a disk or plate, which plate is furnished with loop for securing the appliance by passing under the edge of the lidopening, substantially as described.
2. In a disk or plate with packing for attaching to the lid-opening of kettles andthe like, the thin pieces of plate cutaway, for the purpose specified.
HENRY ELLIS.
