SAFE HINGE.
No. 486,237 Patented Nov. 15,1892.
V 1. V W/ I Q fr Q J Y i' s s fl i UNITED STATES P TENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. SOHENCK, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
SAFE-HINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,237, dated November 15, 1892.
Application filed April 22, 1892- Serial No. 430,265. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SOHENOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Richmond, county of Henrico, and State of Virginia, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Ball-Bearing Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hinges for heavy doors for safes and the like; and it consists of the novel construction and combination, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my new hinge. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the hinge. v V
A represents a strong bracket to be bolted to the door frame or jamb as a support for the hinge, provided in its upper surface with a dovetail groove a.
B is a pintle-block havinga dovetail tenon b, which fits in the said groove, but is made somewhat shorter than the groove, so that the block may be slid outward and inward, as represented in dotted line in Fig. 2, for a purpose hereinafter shown.
slide is to provide when a safe-door is shut to enable the door to be pushed inward for pressing the tongues on the door into the grooves in the jambsa feature which safes have for making close and sinuousjoints.
Having described my invention, I claim- In a hinge for safe-doors, bracket A, bolted to doorjamb and provided with dovetail groove, and the pintle-block B, havinga dovetail tenon supported in the groove of the bracket, in combination as described, and for the purpose set forth.
WILLIAM A. SOHENOK.
