To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, JOHN T. PENDLETON and JOHN S. WILSON, of Buffalo, in the county of Dallas and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Warranty-Deeds, Mortgages, Abstracts, 85e.; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying draw-v property is or can be advantageously given,

with a series of sections or blocks printed thereon in a suitable shape, for the purpose of receiving the numbers of the sections of property conveyed, which will furnish a plot thereof, in addition to the written description, thus making plain the property which is referred to in the instrument, and furnish an easy and ready means for preventing mistakes and ambiguousness in instruments of this character, which so often occur from ignorance, carelessness, or mistake of the person drawing them.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l shows a warranty-deed with ourinvention applied thereto, not filled or plotted in. Fig. 2 shows a tax-receipt with our invention applied thereto, the tax-receipt being filled in with the description of the property and the property plotted or numbered by means of our inventionA A indicates aY warranty-deed or other inas hereinafter described. There may be any desired number of these sections, as will be understood, as the number does not affect the spirit of our invention. Foriustance, the series of blocks can be made to represent only one square of a city and the several sections or spaces represent the several blocks uponthat square.

In Fig. 2 O represents a tax-receipt, which is properly filled in with a written description of the property for which the receipt is given. In this instance the property for which the tax-receipt is given is plotted out and numbered, as will be seen at D. We preferably place the letter N at the top of the series of sections G, the letter E at the right, the letter S at the bottom, andthe letter W at the left to represent, respectively, north, east, south, and west, as is usual with maps, as will be understood. However, in many instances it will be found advantageous to leave these letters off and let the person making out the instrument represent the directions at any point that may seem most convenient.

In instruments of the character herein referred to there is usually a space left for a description of the property, and in this space we print the sections to receive the numbers. However, we do not limit ourselves to this particular position ofthe sections, as they may be printed at any place upon the face of the instrument, and, if necessary, in a' dierent color. c v

By means of a blank having a series of sections or blocks, as described, it will be seen that the party making out the instrument can readily indicate upon the sections the property that is described and referred to in the instrument by writing, thus furnishing aplot of the property as well as a written description, which will avoid many errors which now occur and prevent ambiguousness and uncertainty as to the particular property intended to be conveyed or receipted for in any manner.
