UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM B. JOHNSON, OF PEORIA, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN S. YATES, OF SAME PLACE.
TONGUE-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,856, dated October 25, 1892.
Application filed April 19, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Hill and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Tongue-Support, of which the following isa specification.
The invention relates to improvements in tongue-supports.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive tongue-support capable of being readily applied to any vehicle.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is alongitudinal sectional view of a portion of a running-gear provided'with a tongue-support constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a reverse plan view. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the tongue-support.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
1 designates a tongue-support constructed of two Wires 2 and 3, which are provided in- I 'termediate of their ends with coils 4 and 5,
and which are twisted on opposite sides of the Serial No. 429,801. (No model.)
coils to provide spring-arms 6 and 7, the former of which being arranged beneath the tongue 8 and the latter extending beneath the front axle. The coilsdand 5 are disposed on the horizontal pivot-pin, which attaches the tongue to the front hounds, and they are arranged on opposite sides of the tongue; The wires 2 and 3 are coiled, as shown, and are bent inward from the outer ends of the coils to the adjacent portion of the companion wire, whereby the spring-arms extend from the space between the coils.
It will be seen that the tongue-support is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction and that it may be readily applied to the ordinary vehicle.
What I claim is- A tonguesupport consisting of the two wires provided intermediate their ends with coils and twisted together at opposite sides of the coils to provide the spring-arms, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM B. JOHNSON.
