SPOOL-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,563, dated October 18, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ELISE SYLLWASSOHY, residing at Magdeburg-Neustadt, in the Province of Saxony and Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Skeins or Balls of Worsted, Yarn, and other Thread-Like, Voolen, and Cotton Material; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has been patented in Germany November 2, 1891, No. 624.

Thisinvention relates to devices forholding balls of worsted, yarn, or other thread-like material for the use of k-nitters, crochet-workers, and others, the said devices being constructed and adapted to be attached to the edge of a table or other projecting part of a piece of furniture.

The said invention consists in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter particularly set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of a device embodying my invention, the ball of yarn or worsted being indicated by a dotted line. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the said device without the yarn.

In the said drawings, a designates a bent spring-clip, approximately U-shaped and provided with reinforcing-plates fon the inner faces of its ends, these plates being pressed by the said spring-clip against the upper face and lower face, respectively, of the projecting part of a table-top or other flat projecting part of an article of furniture on which the said spring-clip may be fitted, the position of the latter being usually though not necessarily horizontal. A plate 1), also and more eX- actly U-shaped, is pivoted at the middle of its curve by a stud e to the upper side of this spring-clip. The upheld ends of this plate are broadened to receive a rod 0, on which the yarn is Wound, the ball d, formed by such winding, being between collars g g, fixed on the said rod. The said plate constitutes an efficient support for the said rod.

The above-described device is conveniently fastened to a table or other article of furniture near the worker and the ball is then turned into such a position as will most readily allow the yarn or worsted to be unwound therefrom. When the worker moves away she can easily detach the yarn or worsted ball and its holding device and carry the same with her.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A rod for supporting a ball of yarn or other thread-like material, in combination with a bent plate or support in which its ends are mounted, a clip for attaching the said support to a table or other article of furniture, and a pivot connecting the said support to the said clip, While allowing the former to turn independently of the latter, substantially as set forth.

In combination with the spring-clip a and its reinforcing strips f, the bent plate b, the ball-supporting rod 0, extending across from end to end of the said plate and provided with collars g g, and the pivot-stud 6, whereby the said plate is movably attached to the said spring-clip, substantially as set forth.
