CRUTCH-FOOT.

Be it known that I, HENRY LANERGAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of North Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and usefulImprovements in Grutch-Feet, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in crutch-feet for crutches, and it is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a crutch provided with my improved foot. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section of the improved crutch-foot, and Fig. 3 represents a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the detachable pad.

Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.

In Fig. 1, A represents a crutch of any wellknown construction, size, or shape, to the lower end of which I apply my improved foot, which consists of a metal socket 13, adapted to receive the lower end of the crutch A or to be otherwise secured to it in any suitable or desirable manner. The lower end of the socket B terminates as an inverted cup B, preferably of a concave form, as shown in Fig. 2, and having an annular lip or flange b at its periphery, as shown.

C is a screw immovably fixed in the socket B and projecting at the center of the cup B, which screw serves as a means for readily attaching the improved pad to the foot of the crutch. Said pad consists, essentially, of three partsnamely, an upper layer D, preferably made of leather and having a convex upper surface adapted to fit the concavity of the cup B and to receive the downwardly-projecting portion of the screw 0, as shown.

To the under side of the part D is attached, preferably by means of some suitable cement, the rubber disk or elastic cushion E, which is confined in whole or in part within the annular lip or flange b, so as to prevent its being forced outward when the crutch is in use.

To the under side of the rubber cushion E is attached, by cement or otherwise, the sole F, preferably made of leather, although it may be of some other suitable material without effecting the essence of my invention.

This my improved crutch-foot is very simple in construction and of great durability, as no direct wear takes place on the rubber cushion E, which is protected by the sole F, and whenever the latter becomes worn it can easily be removed and replaced by a fresh piece of leather without the expense of substituting an entire new pad.

The construction described and shown is advantageous in that the screw 0 is an immovable part of the socket B, so that the pad can be attached or detached merely by turning it in the proper direction to screw it onto or off of the screw, thereby avoiding the necessity of usinga screw-driver if it is desired to remove and replace the pad.

Having thus fully described the nature and construction of my invention, I wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim- As an improved article of manufacture, a crutch-foot consisting of a socket-piece B, formed with an inverted cup B, a screw 0, constituting an immovable part of the socket and projecting at the center of the cup, and a pad composed of an inner leather disk D,a sole F, and'an interposed rubber cushion E, said pad being adapted to screw onto or ofi' .of the screw, while the latter stands immovable in the socket, substantially as described.
