SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,849, dated October 4, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MARK W. MARSDEN, a

- citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia,State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Advertising or Business Cabinets, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of an advertising or business cabinet embodying a case, card-receiving drawers therein, and fingers for withdrawing the cards therefrom, the construction being hereinafter fully set forth.

Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a cabinet embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of a portion thereof. Fig. 3 represents ahorizontal section of a portion thereof. Fig. 4 represents a vertical section of an attached portion on an enlarged scale.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a case, which is supported on the base B and may be pivotally mounted thereon by means of a rod 0, so as to be rotated when so desired. The case is many-sided or polygonal in form, each side being provided with arack or holder D for cards, circulars, 82c.

Within the case are pockets or drawers E, arranged verticallyor one above or under the other at the backs of the several sides of the case, said drawers being in oblique positions, so that cards, &c.,placed therein are directed toward the walls of the case and the piles of cards, 8m, present stair -shaped edges. In said walls at places just above the bottoms of the drawers E are throats F for the discharge of the cards, &c. In said bottoms are slots G, which extend from rear to front and receive the sliding fingers H, which are connected with slides J, the latter being provided with knobs K, said, rods being encircled by springs L, which bear against the walls of the case and abut against boxes M, within which said springs and slides are contained and which are suitably secured to the wall of the case. The knobs K appear on the outside of the case, below the throats F,

In the rear walls of the drawers E are 0E sets or shoulders N, which are so located as to support the inner ends of the fingers H, the forward ends of said fingers passing through openings M in the rear walls of the boxes M, whereby the fingers are guided in their advance and return motions. The offsets N are so disposed that when the fingers H are in their normal positions the vertical limbs B of said fingers are rearward of the cards within the drawers, so as to be prepared to engage with the lowermost card of the pile for the purpose of abstracting the same.

In the lower rim Q of the case A are pockets R for cards, circulars, &c.

The holders D receive cards of the kind contained in the drawers E behind said holder, and when it is desired to have one or more of the cards contained in any drawer the proper finger is drawn out by means of the knob and slide and'the card as engaged by the vertical limb P of said finger is advanced through the respective throat F, so that it may be grasped and fully removed. The knob K is then let go and the finger returns to its normal position, its limb P riding freely under the cards in the drawer until it reaches the offset end, when it is rested thereon and located behind the lowermost card, it being noticed that a single card is removed at each operation without disturbing the remainder of the pile.

The drawers E have each one wall common to contiguous drawers, this simplifying the construction of the device.

The case is provided with a cap or cover S, which when removed permits access to the tops of the drawers, said tops being open, whereby the drawers may be replenished.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is=- 1. An advertising cabinet having a cardreceiving drawer with a recess in the rear thereof, said drawer having inclined front and rear walls and perpendicular side walls and said recess having a vertical rear wall, and a slide with a finger working in a slot in a fiat bottom of said drawer and adapted to enter said recess behind the contents of the lower part of the drawer, said drawer having a throat in its front wall at the bottom thereof, said parts being combined substantially as de scribed,

2. An advertising-cabinet having a drawer with a flat bottom and inclined front and rear walls, a box below said flat bottom, and a slide movable in the front and rear walls of said box and having a finger working in a slot in said fiat bottom and the floor of a recess in the back part of the said drawer; said parts being combined substantially as described.

3. A cabinet having a series of drawers arranged in a vertical row withinclined front and rear walls and perpendicular side walls, -1-

the rear wall of each drawer forming. the front wall of the next lower drawer, flat bottoms for said drawers, a horizontal throat at the lower end of the front of each drawer, and a spring-finger working in a slot in the bottom of each of said drawers and in a recess having a perpendicular wall formed in the rear wall of each drawer, said parts being combined substantially as described.
