To a/ZZ whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY W. HAMBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allen, in the county of Lyon and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Bedclothes-Olamp, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in bedclothes-clamps.
The object of the present invention is to simplify and improve the construction of bedclothes-clamps and to provide an inexpensive device which may be readily secured to a bedstead to clamp the bedclothes to prevent the same being accidentally thrown off the bed by children when asleep and which will readily yield without breaking to the strains exerted by the bedclothes and which when not in use may be folded down out of the way.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a bedclothes-clamp constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View, the clamping-arms being folded down upon the plate.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures of the drawings.
1 designates a plate designed to be screwed or similarly secured to a stringer or slat-supporting-bar of the side rail of a bedstead and provided at its center with a perforated lug 2,which is pivoted to a couplingblock 3, which connects a pair of spring-actuated clampingarms 4 with the plate. The coupling-block is provided at its ends with bifurcations 5 and 6, disposed at right angles to each other and receiving in them the lug 2 and the inner ends of the clamping-arms, which parts are secured to the coupling-block by pivots? and 8. By this arrangement the coupling-block may swing longitudinally of the plate l to yield to an upward or downward pull on the bedclothes, and the clamping-arms are adapted to swing transversely of the plate l to yield to any lateral or sidewise pull on the bedclothes. This construction also enables the clamping-arms to be folded down into a horizontal position when the device is not in use.
The clamping-arms 4. are connected by a strong spiral spring 9, which holds the outer ends of the arms together and enables the same to clamp bedclothes suiiieiently to attain a secure hold. The outer ends of the clamping-arms are provided with circular concave jaws 10, which are adapted to clamp bedclothes between them without danger of tearing or otherwise injuring the fabrics.
The device is designed to be constructed of suitable metal and is intended to present an ornamental appearance, and I desire it to be lunderstood that I do not limit myself to the precise details of construction herein shown and described, as I may without departing from the spirit of the invention make minor changes therein.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood.
A bedclothes-clam p comprising a plate provided with a perforated lug, clamping-arms having their inner ends pivoted together and their outer ends provided with oppositelydisposed concave circular clamping-jaws, and a coupling-block pivoted to the inner ends of the arms and to the lugs and provided with bifurcations disposed at right angles to receive the parts, substantially as described.
