Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
SYLVESTER HUFF, OF WVABASH, INDIANA.
WATERPROOF COMPOSITION.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,451, dated September 2'7, 1892.
Application filed June 11, 1891- Serial No. 395,846. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SYLvEsTER HUFF, of Wabash, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waterproof Compositions; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others a skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain improvements in waterproofing compounds or compositions.
The objectof the invention is to provide an improved waterproof composition or compound composed of asmall number of cheap, easily-obtained, and easily-handled ingredients, which can be very easily compounded and can be applied with the utmost ease and will form a surface impervious to water.
With these ends in view myinvention consists in certain novel compositions comprising certain ingredients mixed in proportions about as stated and hereinafter fully set forth.
In carrying out my invention I mix one gallon of raw linseed-oil, eight ounces of resin, four ounces of sugar of lead, and two ounces of lampblack. These ingredients are all combined and mixed in a suitable vessel and heated to the boiling'point or to any other degree of heat which is found suitable, and the compound is then applied while hot to the surface to be waterproot'ed and forms a waterproofing-surface possessing many advantages and fully accomplishes its purposes.
It is evident that my invention is not limited to the exact proportions herein stated.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-- The herein-described waterproofing compound, composed of raw linseed-oil, one gallon; resin, eight ounces; sugar of lead, four ounces, and lampblack two ounces, mixed in about these proportions, substantially as de scribed.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afl'lx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SYLVESTER IIUFF.
