Description

UNITED STATES ATENT FFICE.
HAROLD DENNET HEATHER, OF AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND.
COMPOSITION FOR WATERPROOFING FABRICS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 687,685, dated November 26, 1901..
Application filed July 2; 1900. Serial No. 22 368- (No specimens-l To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HAROLD DENNET HEATHER, merchant, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Auckland, New Zealand, have invented a certain new or Improved Gompositionfor Waterproofin g Fabrics and Analogous Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is the production of a new or improved composition for waterproofing fabrics and analogous purposes.
It consists, essentially,of the combination or admixture, by weight, measure, or otherwise, in the requisite proportions and in the manner more particularly set forth hereinafter of the following three ingredients, viz: zinc- White, (or white 1ead,) beeswax, and turpentine.
In carrying out this invention it has been found by careful experiment and trial that very excellent results in the production of this new or improved waterproofing composition are obtainable by combining the beforerecited ingredients in or about the following proportions: zino-white, (or white lead,) two pounds, by weight; beeswax, one pound, by weight; turpentine, three pints, by measure.
The method or process it is preferred to adopt in the manufactureof this new or improved waterproofing composition is to carefully boil the ingredients when mixed in the above proportions until they attain a temperature of not more than 212 Fahrenheit to in sure the perfect blending of the same together. The resultant waterproofing composition or mixture is then ready for immediate use, or it can be packed or stored in tins, casks, or other. receptacles for transit or subsequent use, and may be readily applied in the usual way, even by unskilled persons, in the Waterproofing of fabrics and analogous purposes for which such a composition is ordinarily employed.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A composition for wate rproofing fabrics and analogous purposes comprising zinc-white two pounds, beeswax one pound, and turpentine three pints, mixed at a temperature of about 212 Fahrenheit.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
HAROLD DENNET HEATHER.
