exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,

and to the letters of reference marked thereon,

which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in fish-nets; and it consists, generally stated, in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will hereinafter be described, and afterward pointed out in the appended claims.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and strong net of that class known as landing-nets for use where the manipulator has but little space to accommodate the throw. This object I obtain by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part'of this specification, wherein like letters of reference refer to like parts wherever they occur, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view with the net removed for convenience of illustration. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing adifferent application of the net. Fig. a is a detached perspective View of a part of the frame.

In the drawings, A indicates the bow, formed of a continuous strip, having its ends secured to a Ian-shaped head B, which head is continued rearwardly to form a tail-piece or handle b, by means of which the net is manipulated. I preferably perforate or form openingsa injrhe bow for the passage of the strands of the net, which is woven therein.

0 indicates the net, of any suitable textile fabric, interwoven, as before stated, in the bow A and around the brace D, as will hereinafter be described.

D indicates a brace passing through the bow A near its ends and in advance of the fan-shaped head B, upon which a portion of the net 0 is woven, said brace being extended rearwardly and its ends embedded in the tailpiece or handle I) of the fan-shaped head B.

E represents a cord or wire wound around thebrace, bow, and head, and thence continued back until it reaches the extreme end of the tail, where it is secured in anysuitable manner.

F represents a flexible tap secured near the end of the tail-piece by the cord E and having a slit f formed therein, enabling the structure to be suspended by this means upon a button or any suitable projection, or it may be used for such other purposes as may suggest themselves.

Secured on the opposite side of the tail-piece by the cord E is an elastic cord G, the outer end of which is provided with a-loop g, which is adapted to be secured to a button on the garment of the operator, thus preventing accidental loss on manipulation, and also permitting free use thereof by reason of its elasticity.

It is obvious that articles maybe placed in the bag formed by the net when the handle is in a vertical position and the device thrown over the shoulder and secured in place by the elastic cord G, which not only permits the free movements of the carrier, but often aids him by its reception of small articles.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

1. In a fish-net, the combination, with the bow, of a fan-shaped head provided with an extension forming a handle and abrace passing through the bow in advance of the head and extending rearwardly and embedded in the handle, substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. In a fishnet, the combination, with the bow, of a fan-shaped head provided with an extension forming a handle, a brace located in advance of the head, passing through the bow, extending rearwardly, and suitably secured to the handle, and an elastic cord attached to the latter, having a loop formed therein, substantially as described.
