Description

(No Model.)
A. WEISSENTHANNER. JAR.
No. 433,033. 3 Patented Sept. 20, 1392.
Wa'n/amrwx v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. AQHILLE WEISSENTHANNER, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
JAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,033, datedSeptember 20, 1892. Application filed December 1 7, 1891. Serial No. 415,433. (No model.) Patented in France January 9, 1891,1Tor210,636.
. tion.
My invention relates to improvements in hermetically sealing flasks, pots, and all receptacles containing preserves or other substances which have to be kept from the air.
In order to make myinvention more clearly understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawings means for carrying the same into effect.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows the pot closed with the collar fixed on. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan View, and Fig. 4 avertical section, of the cap or tin cover. Fig. 5 is a plan view, and Fig. 6 a vertical section, of the elastic ring. Fig. 7 shows in section the book of the closingcollar.
The jar A is provided with a horizontallyprojecting flange 1 about its upper portion, from which a rim 2 extends upward, said rim having an inclined outer shoulder or face. Over the receptacle is placed the diaphragm L, having a horizontal rim M to fit the flange 1 on the jar and an inclined shoulder N to fit the incline of the rim 2.
The cover D has a horizontally-projecting flange 3 and an inner annular recess 4, in which is placed the gasket or ring E,- consisting of elastic material and having an inclined inner bearing-face to fit the inclined shoulder N of the tin diaphragm L.
When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1 to close the jar, they are held by the concave collar Gr, embracing the horizontal flanges, and secured in place by the tongue H on one end passing through the opening K on the other end of the collar.
I claim 1. In combination with the receptacle having a horizontally-projecting flange and a rim extending upwardly therefrom, said rim having an inclined shoulder on its outer side, a cover having a horizontal flange and an inner annular recess, the diaphragm having a horizontal rim and an inclined shoulder extending up therefrom, the gasket in the annular recess of the cover, having an inner inclined face adapted to the inclined shoulder on the diaphragm, and the concaved collar embracing the horizontal flanges of the receptacle and cover, substantially as described.
2. In combination, the receptacle having the upwardly-extending rim and the horizontal flange, said rim having an outer inclined face, the diaphragm having the horizontal outer rim adapted to the flange of the receptacle and an inclined shoulder adapted to the inclined face of the rim, the cover having the inner annular recess and the outer horizontal flange, and the gasket fitting in the said recess and having an inner inclined side, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AOHILLE WEISSENTI-IANNER.
