No. 482,030. Patented Sept. 6,1892.

GEORGE WILLIAMSON, OF LUTON, AND OONSTANTINE DE NEGRI, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,030, dated September 6, 1892.
Application filed February 12, 1892. Serial No. 421,331. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, GEORGE WILLIAMSON, residing at 5 New Cromwell Road, Luton, in the county otBedtord, England, and GON- STANTINE DE NEGRI, residing at 68 Stamford Street, Blackfriars, in the city of London, England, subjects of the Queen of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to means for attaching parts of the harness-such as the ends of the tracesto the roller bolts or studs on the singletrees.
The invention may be used to attach other parts together-such, for instance, as the polestraps to the pole.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents one part of the attaching means; Fig. 2, an'edge view of the same; Fig. 3, a plan view of the other part of the attaching means; Fig. 4, an edge view of the same; and Fig. 5 shows the parts in use. Fig. 6 is a side view of the parts shown on the right of Fig. 5.
The piece 13 is attached to the free end of one part of the harness, such as the trace T, it being slotted at b for this purpose. The trace is passed around the roller-bolt E, so as to project forward, and the D-piece 'D, Figs. 3 and 4, is then run through the slot R in the piece B, and the parts held securely by the tongue P, which is threaded through the projecting end of the D-piece. This D-piece is slotted to receive the trace and also to receive the tongue. It is perfectly loose on the trace and is capable of being moved thereon toward and from the free end or in the arrangement shown toward and from the rollerbolt. When the parts are attached, as on the right of Fig. 5, it will be clear that the pull on the trace will pull the piece B toward the roller-bolt, and the piece B, pulling on the piece D, will slide it along the trace toward the roller-bolt until the parts are drawn tightly together. The strain thus tends to tighten the parts; and another important advantage arises from the ability of the D-piece to slide along the trace, inasmuch as the parts will adjust themselves to any diameter of rollerbolt or other part to which the strap or trace may be attached.
The parts in their separated or loosened condition are shown on the left of Fig. 5.
We claim .as our invention In combination with a strap or trace T, the slotted piece B on the free end of the same, the D-piece D, loosely arranged on the trace to slide thereon toward and from the said free end, and the tongue P for holding the parts together, substantially as described.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WILLIAMSON. OONSTANTINE DE NEGRI. Witnesses:
