No. 481,996. Patented Sept. 6, 1892.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB ZIEGLER, OF ARLINGTON, NEBRASKA.
N ECK-YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,996, dated September 6, 1892.
Application filed Iehruary 23, 1892. Serial No. 422.416. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, J AOOB ZIEGLEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Washington and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Neck-Yoke and Pole- 'lip Attach ments; and I do hereby decla-re the following to beafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The special obgect ot' the invention is to make an attachment for the end of a vehicle tongue or pole which shall consist of four pieces and a connecting-bolt held by a nut, the said attachment embracing both a poletip and a neck-yoke.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view ofthe end Of a pole or tongue on which my attachment is to be placed; Fig. 2, a similar View Of the attachment, and Fig. 3, a vertical sectional elevation.
In the drawings, A represents a vehicle pole or tongue, which is made with the collar d about as far from the end as the length of the tip B, which is to go On it, and at the end with an arc groove ct,onehalf Of the circular wall being cut away to allow it to pass through the tubular tip B, which has at its end an arc flange b', projecting over the outlet thereof, the tip being then turned so as to bring the iiange b' in the groove a', while the rear end of tip rests against the collar a. I cut away the under side of the tip at b, so as to pass the shank Of a headed bolt O up through the countersunk hole b2, then through the washer D, neck-yoke E, washer F, and tip-keeper G, when all the parts are held together by screwing the nut H on the end of the protruding bolt. Thus it will be readily seen that the Whole attachment may be conveniently and quickly put on or taken off the pole, while it cannot possibly get out of place when it has once been iixed in position. The keeper G, which is cast in one piece Withtip or bolted thereto at each end, prevents the neck-yoke from ever working out of its true and intended position, while it is allowed all necessary play on the bolt C.
Between the collar a of tongue and the rear end of the tip I arrange a washer I tO prevent undue friction and noise.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understandingof myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
The described attachment for the end of the pole or tongue of a vehicle, consisting of the tip B, having the excision b, front flange b', hole b2, and keeper G, the washers D F, neck-yoke E, and the bolt C, the latter passing through all the other parts and provided with an end nut, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB ZIEGLER.
