- J. L. MATHER.
CLOTHES DRIER.
N0. 481:,365. Patented Aug. 23, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. MATHER, OF LANARK, ILLINOIS.
CLOTH ES-DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,365, dated August 23, 1892.
Application filed September 10 1891. $erial No. 405,244. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN L. MATHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lanark, in the county of Carroll and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Reels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention consists in certain improvements in tilting reels for clothes, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side View of a clothes-reel provided with myimprovements. Fig. 2illustrates the tilting devices. Fig. 3 is a perspective view to show the band and its latch.
A designates the stock on which the reelis mounted, the said stock having a suitable base B. The upper part of the stock A is cut away on one side, forming a flat surface, as seen at G, and a perforated plate a is fastened to the top of the stock, as shown. To the flat surface formed by cutting away the stock is secured a band or housing '19, within which is placed a tongue or latch c, which is pivoted to the housing at e.
D indicates a head to which the arms E of the reel are secured, the said arms being passed through diagonal mortises cut through the head, so that the armsextend outward from the head and both upward and downward therefrom. The diagonal mortises are cut through the head D to suit the inclination of the reel-arms, four of the latter being employed, and two of said mortises are made at points somewhat lower down than the other two, so as not to interfere at crossings in the head.
To the arms E are secured the parallel cords plate a and through the housing I), so that the head will rest on the plate. The pivoted latch c is in position to close against the bolt 9, when the latter isin place, and is provided with a finger-piece h, by means of which the latch may be lifted. 'When the reel and bolt 9 are in the upright position, as seen in Fig. 1, the latch being closed against said bolt sustains the reel in such position, and when it is desired to tilt the reel the latch may be lifted and turned outward and the reel may then be tilted to an inclined position, as seen in Fig. 2.
I claim- The stock A,having at the upperend a rabbet with the perforated plate a above it, and below said plate the band I), attached to the fiat face 0, said plate carrying a pivoted spring-latch c, in combination with the reelhead D, having a bottom bolt g, whereby the reel may be conveniently held in the positions specified.
In testimony whereof I have alfixed my' signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN L. MATI-IER.
