Description

UNITED STATES PATENT mu es,
IMPROVEMENT IN THRASHlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48,047, dated June 6, 1865.
Tn all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, 0. B. BROWN and WILLIAM T. BROWN, of Alton, in the county of Madison and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Thrashing Machines; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of our invention; Fig. 2, a plan or top view of the same.
Similar letters of'reference indicate like improvement in the construction of thrashingmachines, whereby the same are greatly simplified and rendered capable of being constructed' at a much less cost than hitherto, and the machine nearly balanced on its wheels in order to facilitate theoperation and the transportation of the same.
The invention consists, substantially, in a novel manner of constructing the framing of the machine, which consists of two parallel pieces of timber of sufficient depth to form the sides of the machine, thereby dispensing with the usual planking on the inside of the frame, said timbers extending the whole length of the machine and being of sufficient strength to support all the working parts thereof.
A A represent two parallel beams, which extend the whole length of the machine, and are fitted upon an axle, B, which is a short distance in front of the center of said beams, said axle having a wheel, 0, at each end of it.
D is the thrashing-cylinder, the shaft a of which has its bearings on the beams AA, near one end of the same, said cylinder being over a concave of the usual construction, which is fitted between the beams A A.
E is an endless apron which works over rollers between the beams A A, said apron having slats b attached transversely to it, as usual. v
F is a top board attached to the upper surfaces of the beams A A, and the latter have bottom plates or boards, 0, attached to them. The screen or shoe is hung in a box, G, attached to the under sides of the beams A A, said box having a blast-fan, H, fitted in behind the shoe. The working parts of the machine possess no novel features, they are the same as those now used; but it will be seen from the above description that they are all supported by the beams A A, and that no extra siding or planking is required. Besides this, theframe is nearly balanced on the wheels 0 G, and theimplement or device may be readily moved from place to place, and also readily adjusted for operation-a very important feature, as it effects a great saving in labor and admits of its being adjusted for use in positions where the ordinary machines cannot be conveniently placed.
\Ve do not claim separately any of the working parts of the thrashing-machine herein shown and described, for they are all old and in common use; but
WVe claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A thrashing-machine mounted upon two wheels and constructed and arranged as herein described, so that the operators can stand on the-ground, dispensing with the use of a platform.
