`Be it known thatl I, JACOB SOEQLER, of Burlington, in ,thecounty offDe's Moines, and State-of Iowa,

have invented a new'anddnproved-Wine andfGider `Mill and Press; and I do hereby declare that thefol.- `lowing is a full, clear,and `exact description of th`eA i construction and operation of the"same, reference o being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of lthis specication, in which my invention is represented by a side View.

The object of they invention is to construct a mill and press for the purpose of manufacturing cider, wine, &c., having its parts so arranged and adapted to operatetogether, asto render it much more effective, convenicnt,'and economicalpfgtime and `labor tha any heretofore brought'` into public4 use. o y

to hold the tub or cylinder LQ The latter is composed of vertical staves, surrounded by metallic hoops, theends of which are bent outward into flanges, through which'extend connecting screwbolts.

By` tightening up the nuts on the bolts, the staves I can beforced together and the cylinder rendered perfectly tight, when necessary.

It is also provided with two hooks or ears, e e, on opposite sides, so constructed that a rail or'other pole can be inserted in them for the purpose of lifting .the

Similar channels maybe made in the under side of Four or more of the staves may projectslightly ,'lhe platen is supported by a standard, K, attached to the lever F by a loose strap, L, the weight of the platen, Sto., resting upon a roller, l, onthe upper 'side of the lever, whichfacilitates the moving of the platen with the cylinder. That the lever may not beworn by the roller, .the latter may have an iron track, k, for the roller to travel upon.

This completes the description of the press.

The mill is placed upon a table, M, supported by posts m m', and constructed in the form of a slightlyinclined shallow spout, so that any of the juice that may drop upon itl will run off into the cylinder I.

, When at work, the cylinder is to be moved up, so that the end of the table will be over it. Or'the table may be made adjustable in position, and be moved up to thecylinder.

The mill consists of an oblong box, O, with open top, which can be set upon, and, if necessary, secured to the table M..

Across this box extend Vtwo corrugated rollers, their corrugationsinterlocking, like cog-wheels, as they re volve. v

yThe shafts v o' ofthe rollers exted through the side of the box, and bearcog-pinionsn n', one large and one small, and each provided with a crankor wristl pin, either fixed or detachable, so lthat the power can o 1 .ofthe roller of shaft t.

' There are some details of construction not shown in the drawings; for instance, the boxes for the corru-y gated rollers are fastened to an iron rail, one of them being movable, for the purpose of adjusting the distance between the rollers.

V The rollers are of cast-iron, one foot in diameter, hollow-with fourteen ridges or corrugations, each one inch wide, and one and one-fourth inch high.

In case the apples are very hardto grind, it is only necessary to place a piece of Wood on either side over l the rollers, so as to reduce the` number of apples on the mill at one time.

When necessary to raise the lever andremove the platen from the press, a jack-screw may be employed.

I provide a cross-beam, fr, for it to rest upon. v

When not in use about the press, the jack-screw I may/be employed elsewhere.
