Description
(No Model.)
D. P. NORCROSS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID P. NORCROSS, OF WILTON, NEW JERSEY.
ALARIVI.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,273, dated August 9, 1892.
Application filed December 19, 1891. Serial No. 415,650. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID P. NoRoRoss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilton, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Annunciators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The special obj eetof the invention is to make an annunciator which will strike a bell before the inner door of a house, oce, or store is entered, and then repeat the summons as the inner door is opened.
The invention will rst be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
The drawing is a vertical longitudinal section showing my annunciator applied.
In the drawing, A represents the outer door, B the inner door, and A B' the door-frames, the doors being so hinged to the frames that the door A will swing outwardly andthe door B inwardly. On the inner frame B', Isecure the bell C, carrying at the middle of its outside a spring D, which forms the helve of a hammer E. On the inside and near the top of door B, I place the angle-stud E, which catches and carries back the hammer as the door is opened, then lets it go to strike the bell C.
The visitor lirst opens the door A and thereby makes the hammer K strike the bell C, then enters the vestibule G and opens the inner door B, thereby causing the hammer E to strike the same bell C. This piece E' is held within range of the stud F by a spring D', attached to the outer end of an end-threaded pin H between two nuts II, the pin itself being fastened at its base to the outside of the frame A'. The spring has, near the stud E', a perforated lug f, which is connected by a cord J with a similar lng k on the springhelve K of a hammer L, which strikes the bell C when the door A is opened. The cord J passes through the holes a b in the frames and then overa pulley M, journaled at the extremity of an arm N, fastened to the frame B', so as to stand out horizontally.
I-Iavingthus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The doors A B, opening in opposite directions and carrying near the top of their outside and inside, respectively, the angle-studs E F', in combination with the frame A', carrying on the outside the pin H with the spring D' and hammer E', and the frame B', carrying on the inside the bell C, with spring D and hammer E, the spring K, with hammer L, and the arm N, with end pulley M, the said springs D K being connected by a wire or cord J, passing through said frames, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof Iafx my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
DAVID P. NORCROSS.
