Description

UNITED STATES MILTON V. NOBLES, OF ROCHESTER, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JOHN O. N OBLES, OF RUSHFORD, NEW YORK.
IMPROVED ROSE FOR DOOR-KNOBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 4,0'23, dated May 0, 1865.
To all whoml it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON V. NoBLEs, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Rose for Door- Knobs and other Similar Purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which* Figure l represents an external view of the f rose. Fig. 2 represents a section through the same in the Vdirection of the red lines a: x of Fig. 3, and Fig. 3 represents a rear view of the roseplate. l
Similar letters of reference, where they occur in the several iigures, denote like parts in all the drawings.
I am aware that a screw-sleeve has been used in connection with a rose-plate; but it was so made that when screwed out or elongated its support was taken from it, and it became loose and shackling.
My invention consists in combining` with the screw-sleeve and hub of the rose-plate a bolt, pin, or wedge, with a suitable hole or holes to insert it in, so as to key the sleeve and rose when properly adjusted to its position.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to del l scribe the same with reference to the drawings.
A represents a rose-plate for a door-knob, and B its hub, the front end, c, of which is drawn in, so as to furnish a support for the screw-sleeve G, which is slipped in from the rear of the plate A. The screw-sleeve has an opening, b, in its rear that will slip over a portion of the knob-shank and catch against a shoulder thereon, and also an enlargement, c, upon which the screw-thread is cut, that runs in the screwthread cut in the hub B, this enlargement c forming a second support. Vhen the screw-sleeve is to be turned to take up any slack between the knob and the rose, a pin or key, e, has iirst to be withdrawn,'and then the sleeve is turned until all is tight, and the key or gib c inserted between the sleeve and hub in one of the holes f prepared therefor, of which there may be several, so that an adjustment of a quarter orless of a turn may be made.
VWhat I claim as my invention is- In combination with the screwsleeve and hub, the pin, gib, or key e, for holding the two rmly together when adjusted, substantially as described.
i M. V. NDBLES. Vitnesses: y
