SOLDERlNG-IRON.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,965, dated May 30, 1865.
.To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. LEWIS, o Boston, in the county 0I' Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new. and Iniproved Solderinglron; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which Will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is an external view of my invention; Fig. 2, a longitudinal central section of the same.

This invention relates to a new and improved soldering-iron, designed more especially for hermetieally sealing cans, and for similar purposes in which a small iron is used.
The invention consists `in the employment or use of a shield applied to the implement in -such a manner as to prevent the radiation of heat therefrom and retard the cooling of the iron or, rather, copper, as well as to protect the operator from the heat thereof. j
