UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL BROGGELW'IRTH, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SASH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,324, dated July 19, 1892. Application filed May 3, 1892. $erial No. 431,714. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL BROGGELWIRTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blinds or Shutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvementin sliding blinds; and the invention consists in the novel features set forth in the following specification and claim, and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a face view of the blind. Fig. 2 is an edge view of Fig. l.
The blind A is provided at one edge with grooves B. In each groove is secured aspring 0, held at one end by nails or fastenings D. The free end of the spring plays or slides in the groove B when the spring is compressed. The groove Bis somewhat deepened at the point E to form an incline Hand allow the free end of the spring to sink or sit securely in the groove. The spring has afriction pad or cushion F, of flexible material, applied at the center of the spring, so as to cause the blind to move or slide noiselessly and to produce the necessary friction for holding the blind in place. The free ends of the springs are bent outwardly to form tongues G, which rest on the inclines H, and when the springs 30 are compressed to a great degree the free ends of tongues G will by the action of the inclines H be projected slightly out of the grooves or beyond the edges of the blind or shutter A, so as to assist in holding the latter in place in the frame or channel in which it slides.
The friction-pads F, of flexible material, are an advantage, in that they avoid noise and materially increase friction for the proper retention of the blind or shutter in the position to Which it is adjusted in a frame.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is A The combination, with a shutter or blind A, having grooves B in one of its sides, of springs O, secured at one end in the groove and provided centrally between their ends with friction pads of elastic material for deadening noise and increasing frictional contact with a frame in which the shutter or blind slides, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMIL BROGGELWVIRTH. Witnesses:
