GAS ATTACHMENT FOR COOKlNG-STOVES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,558, dated July 12, 1892. Application filed June 26, 1891. Serial No. 397,576. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD BIGLEY, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Gas Attachment for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to' design a gas attachment for cooking-stoves to be used for cooking which may always remain connected to the stove not only without interfering with but in reality adding to its util= ity when coal or wood is used in the stove for fuel; and it consists, essentially, of securing an oven or ovens provided with gas-burners to the side of the stove adjacent to the ordinary ovens of the cooking-stove by means of bolts passing from the inside of the side of the oven of the cooking-stove, preferably through the supplemental ovens to the outside, where they have nuts screwed on them to hold the supplemental ovens in place, and in placing an open table at the top of the supplemental ovens and supporting the inner side of the table, preferably on the upper corner of the stove and the outer side, by legs resting on the top of the supplemental oven,

, suitable burners being also provided beneath the open table for cooking purposes, as shown.

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my gas attachment for cooking connected. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation through the side of the stove and gas cooking attachment.

In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

A is the upper oven, and B the lower oven, of my gas cooking attachment, and a are the sides of the attachment, and b the side'of the cooking-stove.

C are the bolts passing from the inside of the side b to the outside of the outer side a, where they are provided with nuts 0.

D is an open table having lugs d formed on its inner side, which project through slots e in the side I) at the .upper corner of the cooking-stove.

E are legs supporting the outer side of the table D.

F are burners beneath the table D, and G burners in the ovens A and B, and H the gas-pipe supplying said burners.

In order to eifectually carry off any odor which may arise from cooking or an escape of gas in the oven, I make a hole I in the upper portion of the oven and provide a damper J for the same. By opening the damper J by the rod K the odor escapes into the portion of the stove around the oven, when the draft carries it up the smoke-pipe. From this description it will be seen that I provide a gas attachment for a cooking-stove which is very advantageous.

\Vhen coal or wood is used as fuel in the cooking-stove, the table D forms a support for cooking utensils, thus enlarging the serviceable area on thetop ofthe stove, while the ovens A and B,on account of their being adjacent to the side of the oven of the cooking-stove, are heated to such a degree as to be capable of keeping warm dishes or victuals cooked in the stove, and, vice versa,the ovens of the cooking-st ve will serve also in keeping warm victuals cooked in the gas-stove. Being united together, they take but little room, and as there are no burners in the oven or beneath the pot-holes of the cooking-stove there is not the inconvenience and expense of removing the said burners after using gas for summer cooking, which removal is imperative, as the burners beneath the pot-holes would get choked up with soot should they be left in the cooking-stove. This is obviated by placing all the burners completely outside the cooking-stove, as shown,thereby also furnishing a ready means of cooking an increased number of victuals when desired.

What I claim as my invention is 1. In combination with a cooking-stove, a gas cooking attachment consisting of ovens and gas cooking-table connected directly to the side of the stove next the oven, the supplemental oven being held close to the stoveoven and provided with a damper at one side connecting with the smoke flue or pipe of the cooking-stove, as and for the purpose specified.

2. In combination with a cooking-stove, the supplemental ovens A and B, connected by .bolts 0 directly to the side I) of the stove next the oven, the table D, supported by lugs 01 in the slots 6, and legs E onthe top of the oven A, as specified.
