Be it known that I, MORGAN Runas BANKS CREERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ebensburg, in the county of Cambria and State of' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clamps for Dental Flasks,of which thefollowin g is a specication.
This invention relates to clamps for dental flasks; and it has for its object to provide an improved spring clamping device which can be readilyadapted to anydental vulcanizingflask with but a slightalteration in the pattern and one which will be especially designed to equalize the pressure in forcing the flask members together upon Ithe rubber placed therein.
With these and many other obj ects in view,
which will readily appear to those skilled in the art, the same consists in the novel con-A struction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a dental flask provided with a spring clamping plate constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section ot the same. Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective of the clampingplate detached. Fig. 4 is a similar view of a simplied form adapted for another construction of flask.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A represents a dental vulcanizing-flask of well-known pattern and having the principal parts used in most all flasks ofV this character, and the same comprises the upper and lower flask members B, seated upon the base C and inclosed within the series of' upright posts D, arising from said base and holding the flask members thereon in any manner, according to the construction of the flask. The upper ends of' each of said posts, which project above the top of the upper flask member when the two are placed together, are provided with the notches or shoulders E.
A spring clamping plate or disk F is designed to be pivotally'mounted upon the top of the upper flask member and securely clamp said members together, as is provided for by this invention. The said plate F is provided with a pivot stud or pinfupon the underside thereof, that is adapted to engage the recess or opening f in the top of' the .upper flask member, and thus pivotally mounts said plate upon the top of the flask. The plate F is composed of spring metal to especially adapt it for the purposes for which it is used and 1s provided with a series of spring locking-bps G, bent upwardly, so that in turning said plate the spring-lips will simultaneously engage and slide beneath the notches or shoulders of the side posts of the flask, and thus cause the Vpressure to be evenly distributed and exerted upon the top of the flask to securely clamp the members thereof together and the rubber therein,`asvwill be readily apparent. The
spring-plate F is further provided with an u pturned operating flange or flanges H, as shown in Fig.4, which may either be grasped by the fingers, so as to revolve the plate and throw the upturned spring-lips beneath the lockingnotches of the flask, or the said plate may be turned to clamp the flask by placing a small rod or other device between the studs h, or across from flange to flange when there are two flanges, as in Fig. l, so as to obtain a leverage for turning the same.
In Fig. 4 the plate F is illustrated as having but two opposite locking ends or edges. It will be readily seen by the line of perspective in this gure that the opposite locking ends or edges of said plate are twisted reversely to each other, so as to form upwardlylbent locking lip or tongue portions adjacent to the opposite flanges H, which portions correspond, practically, to the construction of the series of spring-lips G shown in the other figures and identically with the same in point of operation.
The construction, operation, and adaptation of the herein-described clampis'nowthought to be apparent without further description.
`Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1.
