UNITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
JULIUS FLEISCHMANN AND PAUL FLEISCHMANN, OF SONNEBERG, GERMANY.
DOLL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,892, dated. June 28, 1892.
Application filed January 26, 1892. Serial No. 419,307. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JULIUS FLEISCHMAN and PAUL FLEISCHMANN, residents of Sonneberg, Saxe -Meiningen, Germany, have invented a new an 1 useful Improvement in Dolls, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dolls and analogous articles; and it consists in the details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front View of a doll-body made in accordance with our invention, a portion of the glazed paint on said body being broken away. Fig. 2 is a side view, partly sectional, on the line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2, showing the construction of one of the apertures in the dollbody. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view showing the method of fastening the various parts of the doll-body together; and Fig. 5 is a section on line 5 5, Fig. 4.
A A A represent portions of the doll-body made, preferably, of pasteboard, papiermach, or the like, suitably molded to conform to the general shape of the body. These portions may overlap in certain sections, as in front of the body, so as to give greater stiffness to the body at that point and protect thejoints. The edges of these portions A A A are brought together and fastened with wire staples B in the manner shown in Figs. 4 and 5, or any other suitable fastener may be employed. The apertures O in the body into which the arms, legs, and head are socketed are reinforced by metallic eyelets D, which, besides serving as a joint for the body and members, serve, also, to reinforce the aperture and help to connect the portions of the body together. After the parts A A A have been fastened together with the wire fasteners B and the eyelets D inserted in the apertures O the entire outside of the bodyis coated with an enamel-like paint E, effectually concealing the joints.
The advantages of our invention are simplicity of fastening, smoothness of finish, cheapness, strength, and accurate formation. It is manifest that, although we have shown three portions A A A serving to makeup the body, we may, without departing from the spirit of our invention, use two or more than three, the method of fastening remaining the same and the apertures being reinforced by eyelets. I
What we claim as our invention is-,
The combination of the molded body portions A 'A A arranged so that the edges of said portions meet, with the wire staples B, connecting said portions at their point of junction, and with metallic eyelets D, placed in the perforations of said portions A A A substantially as set forth.
JULIUS FLEISCHMANN. PAUL FLEISOHMANN.
