SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,723, dated June 28, 1892. Application filed March 5, 1892. Serial No. 423,834. (No model.)

Be it known that I, GEORGE C. WEs'rER- VELT,a citizen of theUnited States ofAmerica,

residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Plow- Points, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the plowpoint. Fig. 2 is a top plan of the plow-point and of a section of the plowshare; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the point of the plowshare, showing the recess for receiving the plow-point. Y

This invention relates to certain improvements in plow-points, which improvements are fully set forth and explained Vin the following specification and claim.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the removable and reversible plow-point, formed, as shown in Fig. l, with a wedge-shaped toe and having a rearwardly-extending tapered integral tang I5, having longitudinal offsets O on each side, the said offsets being reverse from each other.

D is the point of the plowshare, having a wedge-shaped recess in its toe corresponding in shape tO that of the tang B of the pointA, and is provided with corresponding longitudinal offsets C in its sides, but reversed from those of the point A. The tang Bof the point A is inserted in the said recess Of the share, as shown in Fig. l, and to hold it in a pin is inserted in the hole '1',the said hole being half in both the pointand share. Vhen the point becomes worn oit on the bottom, it can be reversed, so that the lower worn side will be up and be held in the share in the saine manner, so that it will last much longer than if it were `not reversible. The point A is also provid ed on each side with the laterally extending flanges V for entering into the corresponding recesses X in the toe Of the share for the purpose Of preventing vertical movement of the point in the share. The point A is also' provided with the angled shoulders S, located at the base of its tang B, fitting the corresponding angled toe-points of the share for the purpose of assisting the tang to prevent lateral movement of the toe A in the share D.

By the use of such an insertible point the share is caused to last a-very much longer time than if it had an integral point.

I am aware that removable points for plowshares have heretofore been in use, but not constructed like this, having its tang provided with the longitudinal reversed offsets C and the laterally-extending auges V and angled Vshoulders S.

It is designed to use this point on any kind of a plow, whether of the ordinary kind, with a stationary mold-board and share, or on a side-hill plow, in which the mold-board and share are reversible.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:

The reversible plow-point shown and de.- scribed, having a wedge-shaped toe and a rearwardly-extending tang or shank B, having the longitudinal offsets Cthe offsets on one side being reversed from those on its opposite side and having the rearwardly and laterally extending flanges V for fitting a corresponding recess in a plowshare and having the angled shoulders S and pin-groove r, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
