Description
O. T. WELLS.
DOOR CHECK.
(No Model.)
No. 476,910. Patepted June 14, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES T. WVELLS, OF OHIO FALLS, INDIANA.
DOOR-CHECK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0.476,910, dated June 14, 1892.
Application filed November 16, 1891; Serial No. 412,104. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES T. WELLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohio Falls, in the county of Clark and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Door-Checks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact deseriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has for its object to make a door-check which will be adapted to be used on either a right or left door and to be operated by the foot, the slide being locked up or down by moving an elbow-lever in the are of a semicircle.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front elevation showing the cheek secured to the door; Fig. 2, a detail perspective view of the plate, which is attached to the door; and Fig. 3, a perspective view of the elbow lever and slidebolt connected by a link.
In the drawings, A represents a door, to which is attached by the screws B or any secure fastening a metallic plate O, which is provided with the guides c 0. Through these guides reciprocate the bolt D, which may be formed at its lower end with the foot (1.
E is an elbow or right-angled lever fulcrumed at the vertex of its angle by a bolt 6 on the upper end of the plate 0. The screw-.
bolt or pivot 6 passes through the plate into the door. The short arm 6 of the lever is connected by the link F with the upper end of the bolt D, said link being pivoted to each.
0 is a lug arranged on the plate C, so that each arm of the lever D will rest against it, so as to bring the fulcrum e of the lever and the link -pivots f f in vertical alignment. Vhen the short arm is against the lug c, the bolt will be locked against the floor, and when the long arm rests on it the bolt will be locked in a raised position to let the doorswing freely to and fro on its hinges.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In door-checks, the combination, with a door-plate having guides c and lug c, a slide bolt D, and an end-pivoted link F, of the elbow-lever E, fulcrumed at the vertex of its angle and adapted to be turned a half-revolution, whereby it may hold the bolt up from the floor or down against it, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES T. \VELLS Witnesses:
JAMES B. PREWITT, WM. COLGAN.
