various parts thereof firmly joined and cOnnected together, at the same time provides a closely-formed bedbottom which has all the spaces between the coils of springs entirely closed by the connections which connect the springs themselves together, and thus form more spring area than in inost bed-bottoms of this character. rihe bedding is thus prevented from working down between the springs, and which thus provides for the com fortable accommodation of different weights This construction also obviates the possibility of the springs leaning over and Overlapping each other.
Vith these and many other objects in view, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a top plan view of a bed-bottom constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of two pairs of springs having their bridges locked together.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A represents an ordinary bed-frame supporting the transverse slats B, resting upon the sides of the frame in the usual manner. Secured upon the top of each of the slats B are separate pairs of coiled springs C, extending from side to side of the bed-frame to fill the entire space between the sides of the frame. Each pair of springs B are formed of a single piece of Wire and have their upper coils extended out and beyond the coils of the springs to form the extended bridges C. Each of the bridges C comprises the opposite V- shaped portions D, extended directly beyond and in front of the opposite springs comprising each pair, and the central elongated U- shaped portions E, joining the inner ends of the V-shaped portions D ate, and said lU shaped portions are themselves extended from their connection at c with the Opposite V-shaped portions beyond the apices of the sections D on each side thereof and between and slightly beyond the pair of springs on' the next adjacent slat. Each of the V-shaped portions of the bridges C has its respective apiccs take over and engage the upper coil of the springs of the adjacent pair between which the said U-shaped portion of the same bridge extends. The closed ends ofthe U-shaped portions E of each bridge take over the adjacent U-shaped portions of the adjacent bridge of the springs on the adjacent slat and interlock with the said adjacent bridge at the juncture c of the inner ends of the V-shaped portions with the central U-shaped portions, as illust-rated in the drawings. It will thus be seen that each adjacentv bridge is securely locked with its adjacent bridge, while at the same time the V- shaped portions of the saine bridge are also locked with the springs having' said adjacent bridge, thus providing when all the bridges are locked with eachother and with their' adjacent springs a practically-closed top, forming a spring bed-bottom which, while giving to pressure upon any portion thereof, will at the same time prevent the bedding from passing between the springs at any part of the bed-bottom. Coupling-links F connect the apices of the side V-shaped portions which lie adjacent to each other upon the same slats with each other. The said eoupling-links also pass over the top coils of the springs which the said V-shaped portions engage and cffectually prevent the said V-shaped portions from sliding out of position and shape.
At the front end or head of the bed-frame A the head pairs of springs and their respective bridges are coupled or locked to the head of the bed by means of the coupling wires G. The said coupling-Wires G have a central loop portion H, connecting the front bridges at c, and the laterally-extending hookarms I, engaging the top coils of the springs.

The said coupling-wires are fastened to the head of the bed by ordinary hooks J. The foot pairs of springs and their respective bridges are also locked to the foot of the bed by means of the angular coupling-wires K, engaging hooks J in the foot of the bed-frame and the apices of the various V-shaped portions of the bridges, which are themselves connected together by connecting-links L, which entirely close the spaces between the various bridges, said U-shaped portions of the lower pairs of springs taking over said hooks'J to complete the coupling. By means of these various couplings and connections the bed-bottom is provided which possesses the various characteristics premised.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In aspringbed-bottom, thecombination, with the slats, of the adjacent pairs of coiled springs upon said slats, each of said pairs of springs having extended bridges which comprise the opposite Vshaped portions having their respective apices engaging the upper coils of the adjacent pair of springs and the central elongated U-shaped portions joining theinner ends of the V-shapcd portions and extended beyond the apices of said V-shaped portions between and beyond the said ad jacent pair of springs and interlocked with the bridge of said adjacent pair ot springs, substantially as set forth.

In a spring bedbottom,the combination of the adjacent pairs of coiled springs, each of said pairs of springs having extended bridges which comprise opposite V-shaped portions having their respective apices engaging the upper coils of the adjacent pair of springs and the central elongated U-shaped portions joining the inner ends of the V- shaped portions and extended beyond the apices of said portions between and beyond the said adjacent pair of springs and interlocked with the bridge of said adjacent pair of springs, and the coupling-links connecting the apices of the adjacent V-shaped portions with the coils of the springs which said apices engage, substantially as set forth.
3. In a spring bed-bottom, the combination, with the bed-frame and the slats therein, of the adjacent pairs of coiled springs upon said slats, each of said pairs of springs having extended bridges interlocking with the adjacent bridges and pairs of springs, said bridges comprising opposite V-shaped portions and a central elongated U-shaped portion extended beyond the apices of said V-shaped portions and between and beyond the said adjacent pair of springs, and the end couplings having a central loop portion engaging the end bridges, and laterally-extending hookarms engaging the top coils of the end pairs of springs and the bed-frame, substantially as set forth.
