EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,905, dated May 31, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LAWRENCE HENRY TAY- LOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleeve and Gulf Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a combined sleeve and cuff holder; and it has for its object to provide a device of this character designed to support the culf in the desired location upon the arm and at the same time retain the wristband of the shirt in its proper position with relation to the cuff.

A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and improved article of this character designed to be entirely constructed in a single piece and which will, furthermore, possess advantages in point of inexpensiveness, durability, ease of adjustment, and general efficiency.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the combined sleeve and cutl holder, which is preferably formed of a single piece of wire or sheet metal. At the rear end of the device is an arm B, having provided therein aV-shaped slot 1), adapted to receive a portion of the shirtsleeve, thus securing the holder thereto. A forwardly-extending arm 0 is provided at the outer end of the holder, which has a slot 0. The latter is adapted to receive the shank s of the sleeve-button S, and, being of less breadth than the diameter of the head 5' of said button, accidental disengagement of the button, therefore, is obviated.

ter serves the twofold purpose of admitting the head of the sleeve-button to permit the shank of the latter to be received by the slot 0 and to receive the portion of the shirt-sleeve to be wedged in the slot 1).

E designates the cuff-securer, which is located at the outer end of the arm 0. The securer E consists of an arm bent upwardly at approximately right angles to said arm 0, as shown at e, and thence bent forwardly and downwardly for about one-half the length of the portion 6, as at e, the arm terminating in a forward extension e parallel with the plane of the arm 0 and adapted to bear upon the outer surface of the cuif to prevent disengagement with the latter.

The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which it appertains.

In manufacture it will be obvious that the device can be made either of a single piece of wire or strip of metal or it maybe stamped from sheet metal, in -any of which cases the entire device is formed in a single piece. When constructed of wire or strip metal, one end is bent to form the cuff-securer, the wire or strip being then bent to form the other parts, and, lastly, the free end is bent and secured around the portion 6 of the cuff-securer, as shown in Fig. 3. When formed of sheet metal, the entire device is struck therefrom by a suitable die, the cuff-securer being struck up at the outer end of the device and into the shape specified. (See Fig. 4:.)

In practice the cuff-securer is first passed through the lower buttonholes of the cuif, and the latter then drawn over the hand. When the opening cl coincides with the sleevebutton, the head of the latter is projected through the opening, so that the slot 0 will receive the button-shank. After the cuff has been adjusted, as desired, a portion of the shirt-sleeve is forced by the finger through the opening d and then drawn into the slot e, securely fastening the device to the sleeve.

My invention serves the twofold purpose of retaining the cuff and shirt-sleeve in adjusted position,the wristband being thus held in its proper relation to the cuff. By this construction the Wristband is prevented from working below the cuff, as frequently occurs in devices of this character.

I claim as my invention- As an improved article of manufacture, a combined sleeve and cuff holder comprising a rearWardly-proj ectin g arm B, provided with a \l-shaped slot 17, adapted to receive a portion of the sleeve, a forward1y-extending arm 0, provided With a slot 0 of approximately the same breadth throughout its length and adapted to receive the sleeve-button shank and retain said button, whereby the Wristband is held in its proper relation to the cuff, an enlarged portion D, connecting said arms and having an opening (Z, and a euff-securer E, located at the outer end of the arm 0 and consisting of an outturned portion 6, a downwardly and forwardly extending portion e,

and an extension 6 approximately parallel with the plane of the arm 0, said seeurer being adapted to retain the cuff against disengagement therefrom in either direction, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
