UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN CAMPBELL AND ARTHUR J. BRAMMA, OF BRADFORD,ENGLAND.
APPARATUS FOR ACTUATING DABBlNG-BRUSHES FOR COMBING-MACHINES.
$PECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,034, dated May 17, 1892. Application filed February 3, 1892. Serial No. 420,178. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN CAMPBELL and ARTHUR JAMES BRAMMA. subjects of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Bradford, in the county of York, England, have invented certain Improvements in Apparatus for Actuating Dabbing-Brushes for Combing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improve ments in the apparatus described in the specification of United States Patent No. 842,701, and has for its object the construction of the dabbing mechanism in such a manner that the circumference of the operating eccentric is kept rounder than is the case when acting direct upon the projections of the oscillatory plate as hitherto and by our addition to increase the durability of the apparatus by obtaining a larger wearing-surface between the projections of the oscillatory plate and operating device. 0n working dabbing motions with the eccentric running in direct contact with the projections of the oscillatory plate, as described in the before-named specification, the eccentric is worn flat on the circumference at the extreme throw or greatest distance from the center of the shaft and at two places on the circumference a short distance from each other and nearly opposite to the fiat place at the extreme throw, thus making it impossible for the eccentric to fill in every position. of the circumference the space between the projection of the oscillatory plate and for the apparatus to run silently.
In describing our invention in detail reference is made to the accompanying, drawings, in which Figure 1 represents an elevation, partly in section, of a dabbing apparatus made according to our invention; Fig. 2, a detail eleva-- tion of the oscillatory plate; Fig. 3, a side view of the same, partly in section; Fig. 4, a front view of the additional sliding block, and Fig. 5 an elevation of the shaft and eccentric with the block in section.
Motion is communicated to the apparatus by the pulley A, secured on shaft G, which is prepared with conical bearings tapering in opposite directions and mounted in adjustited bearing-surface.
able bushes 'u, regulated by screws K. The circumference of the eccentric-L is conical, and instead of the same fitting directly between the incline-faced projections M and M of movable plate M a block N is introduced, bored conical to fit the eccentric, and tapering at the edges to fit between the inclined surfaces of projections M and M, by which means the whole circumference of the eccentric is utilized in operating the'movable plate M ,.and by the taper edges of the block N fitting the taper of the projections M and M an increased area of wearing-surface is obtained, thereby preventing holes being Worn in the before-named projections and flats on the eccentric by the latter acting upon a lim- By the regulation of the bushes '0 the eccentric L can be adjusted to work freely in the block N. Thus by increasing the Wearing-surface of the eccentric in the manner described the circumference of the eccentric L is kept rounded and the projections are not worn into holes, thereby preventing the knocking between eccentric and projections, as is now the case when constructed in the manner as hitherto, thus insuring silent running and increasing the durability of the apparatus.
WVhat we claim is 1. In a dabbing apparatus, the combination, with the conical eccentric and the oscillatory plate adapted to be operated thereby, of a block surrounding said eccentric and se cured in said plate, substantially as set forth.
2. In adabbing apparatus, the combination, with an eccentric having a conical circumference and a block provided with aconical hole adapted to fit the circumference of said eccentric, of shaft G, having conical bearings, and the plate. M having projections M and M, between which the edges of the block fit, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof We have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses. v
