UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J OSEPHUS CLARK SPROAT, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
DAILY SHEET AND RECORD-BOOK FOR DELIVERY SYSTEMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,973, dated May 3, 1892. Application filed July 20, 1891. Serial No. 00,150. (N0 specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPHUS CLARK SPROAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Daily Sheets and Record-Books for Delivery Systems; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to means for accounting and recording the business of delivering at stated periods to a number of persons in various parts of a city or village any articles, such as newspapers, ice, milk, 850., and it may also be used for parcel-delivering and other similar lines of business; and its object is to produce a convenient record of each days transactions and to provide a daily bulletin from which the carriers or other persons (10- ing the delivering may take their orders for the day.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a sheet for use as a daily bulletin and record, and Fig. 2 a book adapted to be used in my improved process.
ThesheetsAaremadeofanyconvenientsize, provided with aproper headingand blank for date, as shown at D, and divided into as many squares C as may be necessary, each square being numbered consecutively and further subdivided into blank spaces for memoranda and orders, respectively. The sheet shown, being adapted to the business of delivering newspapers, has in each square a blank for the number of papers taken out, time of day of starting, new places to leave papers, old places to stop or discontinue, and remarks or general memoranda. These blanks may be varied to suit the nature of the business.
In the book 13 each leaf is provided with a numbered tag E, or otherwise numbered to correspond with the spaces on the sheets A.
This brings two opposite pages to each number, which pages are ruled, as shown, the book being also adapted to the same business as the sheets A, being ruled horizontally for the names of various arties and verticall for delivery, by
the number and streets of the whom money is paid, and the time to which the article is paid for, the double horizontal ruling on the right-hand page being to enter both the date of payment and the date to which the paper is paid for. These rulings can also be varied to adapt it to the particular business required. In this particular application of my process the territory is divided into routes, and these routes are designated by consecutive numbers correspond ing to those in the spaces on the sheets and on the tags or pages of the book. All the names and other matter connected therewith in each particular route are entered in the book on the pages having the number of said route, and all daily memoranda likewise entered on the sheets for each day in the space having a number corresponding, and these sheets are changed daily, each being dated and filed awayor bound, as most convenient, for preservation and future reference.
I do not limit myself to any particular form of sheets and books or to any particular ruling of the same.
What I claim is 1. The herein-described daily sheet for delivery systems, divided at its top into a space D for heading and date and beneath said space D into numbered squares 0, having at their tops spaces for headings, each of said spaces C being subdivided into spaces E, one for the memoranda of new customers and the other for memoranda of orders to stop leaving, and one of said spaces E of each space C being subdivided to form a space for remarks, all substantially as described.
2. The herein-described book for use in delivery systems, having the alternate pages numbered to correspond with the spaces of the .daily sheet and the pages on one side divided by horizontal and vertical lines into spaces for the names, residences, and payments of the customers, and the opposite pages having double horizontal rulings for both the date of payment and time paid to, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I alfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J OSEPI'IUS CLARK SPROAT.
Witnesses: I
LUTHER V. MoUL'roN, CHARLES W. TUFTS.
