COMBINED LAMP AND CANE OR UMBRELLA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,763, dated'April 26, 1892.
Application filed May 9, 1891. Serial No. 392,233. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON LAMBERGER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Buda-Pesth, Austria-l-Iungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Lamp and WValking-Stick or Umbrella, of which I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide Walking-sticks and umbrellas with a practical and convenient lighting arrangement placed in the handle thereof.
Reference being made to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows the arrangement for carrying this invention into effect in longitudinal section; Fig. 2, in front eleva- Fig. 3 shows the apparatus closed.
Within the upper part of the cane or stick a is placed a cylindrical metal tube 1), which is closed at the lower end and carries the flange c, resting on the under side on the end of the cane and provided on its upper part with a gallery carrying a flame protectin g hood e,with a movable reflecting and closing plate d therein. The gallery on the flange c is provided with small holes for admitting ventilation. The ben zine or other spirit or oil used for burning is drawn by a Wick g from a sponge h, impregnated either with the said spirit or oil. The sponge his inclosed in a wire net 2', which is placed into the tube I), being fixed on the lid jof said tube. The wick g is carried Within a small tube k, which penetrates the lid j and passes inside the wire net. The whole device is covered and inclosed when not in use bya metal cap Z, which is fastened on the upper part of the flange c and which forms the handle of the cane, Figs. 1 and 8.
I claim- The combination, with a walking-stick or umbrella, of a lamp in' the handle thereof, consisting of the metal tube 1), perforated sponge-tube 'i, and Wick-tube 76, the lid j, flange c, with ventilated gallery, and hood 6, movable reflecting and closing plate 01 therein, and the covering-cap Z, adapted to be attached to the said gallery and forming the handle, substantially as set forth.
