UNITED STATES ATEN'I FFICE.
EDWIN CRITTENDEN FRY, OF SHERMAN, TEXAS.
DOCKET, RECORD,
OR SIMILAR BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 473,219, dated April 19, 1892.
Application filed October 1, 1891. Serial No. 407,403- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN CRITTENDEN FRY, residing at Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invent-ed certain new and useful Improvements in Dockets, Records, or Similar Books; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying draw' ings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to dockets, records, or similar books; and its objects are, first,to place in compendious form all the necessary matter incident to an entry of an event or history; second, to adjust the space allotted to each head so that it will suffice for a normal entry; third, to diminish the labor of the clerk or accountant in perpetuating such information, and, fourth, to attain these purposes with relative economy of time and material. I accomplish these ends by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents one half of the matter pertaining to a record embodying the essential features of my invention, constituting one page of the book. Fig. 2 is the corresponding half of the record constituting the opposite page of the book.
The two opposite leaves shown, respectively, in Figs. 1 and 2 constitute one page of the record, having one transverse ruling at the top of each sheet to afford space for variable matter, having ten vertical rulings unequally disposed to afford space for the permanent headings, as No. of claim, Name of claimant, Amount claimed, Amount allowed, Date allowed, month, day, year, Out of what fund allowed, and For the purpose allowed, having, also, thirteen transverse rulings to afford requisite space to inscribe the information pertaining to each head. The column headed For the purpose allowed is subdivided to afford thirty-nine lines, because of the increased quantity of information peculiar to this head. At the bottom of the sheet are the permanent inscriptions Attest, Clerk, By, Deputy, Approved this day of presiding. The opposite sheet is similarly ruled, having space for variable information at the top and vertical columns inscribed, respectively, for permanent headings with the words Claim filed, month, day, year, Warrant issued, month, day, year, Amount issued, dollars, cents, No. of warrant, By Whom re ceipted for, and Remarks. It is apparent that by this method much ruling is avoided, the habit of condensing information is impressed, and the labor of keeping the records diminished.
I am aware of the patent heretofore granted to Barnard on the 18th day of March, 1890, numbered 423,657; but therein no such correlative adjustment of the spaces is made as is essential to the purposes of my invention, and I hereby disclaim the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is The docket herein shown and described, whose two opposite leaves constitute one page of the record, having one transverse ruling at the top of each sheet to afford space for variable matter, having ten Vertical rulings unequally disposed to afford space for the permanent headings, as No. of claim, Name of claimant, Amount claimed, Amount allowed, Date allowed, month, day, year, Out of what fund allowed, and For the purpose allowed, having, also, thirteen transverse rulings to afford requisite space to inscribe the information pertaining to each head, the column headed For the purpose allowed being subdivided to afford thirtynine lines, because of the increased quantity of information peculiar to this head. At the bottom of the sheet are the permanent inscriptions Attest, Clerk, By, Deputy, Approved this day of presiding. The opposite sheet is similarly ruled, having space for variable information at the top and vertical columns inscribed, respectively, for permanent headings with the words Claim filed, month, day, year, Warrant issued, month, day, year, Amount issued, dollars, cents, No. of warrant, By whom receipted for, Remarks, the whole disposed as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN ORITTENDEN FRY.
