JULIAN T. DIXON, OF BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 714,462, dated November 25, `1902. Application iiled February 6, 1902. Serial No. 92,844. (No model.)
l To all whom irma/y concern: l
`the following is a specification.
My invention consists inthe particular arrangement of the various items and columns and in the manner of making out the statement and pay-envelop, all of which will be more fully described.
Before proceedingfurther with the description of myinvention I desire to distinctively state and emphasize the fact that minor changes may be resorted to without sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention. instance, it is quite evident that the several items and columns may be changed and others added as the case may require and the heading and ending of the statement as shown on the envelop and slip maybe changed to suit different employments without departing from f my invention.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l represents a view of my iml y proved pay-envelop, showing the items and columns printed thereon. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the wage-statement. Fig. Sisamodifled form of the envelop. Fig. 4 is a wagestatement corresponding in form to the statement shown on the envelop in Fig. 3.
Referring by letters to the drawings, A represents the pay-envelop, and B the wage-statement, (hereinafter referred to as slip,) in
l order to more clearly define, as both have practically the same form or statement thereupon.
At the top of the slip appears the word Statement, as shown at C, under which is 'y the word Number, abbreviated No., and indicated by letter F. This arrangement is followed by two or more horizontal lines G, under which are arranged the words Total Wages H at the upper left-hand corner, with a dotted line extending therefrom to a double column I upon the opposite edge. This double column extends down to two horizontal lines J, above which are arranged the words Total deductions K and Cash pay day L, both of which have dotted lines extending, respec- For,
tively, therefrom to the double column above mentioned, which is provided with a short horizontal line M directly opposite the words Total" deductions. .Y
Intermediate the words Total wages and Total deductions is arranged a number of items N-such as Checks, Rent, Coal, Physiciam ire-under each of which is a horizontal line O, extending toa double column P, parallel with the double column iirst mentioned.
At the bottom of the slip are the words Period ending and a space for the date, as shown at Q, under which is a space Rfor the name of the firm, corporation, or company. This is followed by the words Received payment and a space S for the signature of| the employee.
The pay-envelop is provided with a facsimile of the statement upon the slip, except that the words Statement and Received payment are omitted.
In Fig. I I have shown a modified form of the slip, wherein I have simply given a detail of the wages, as shown at T-such as Days at, Tons at, Yards at, &c.-itbeing understood that any details of wages may be employed to suit different requirements, and in Fig. 3 I have simply shown an envelop to correspond to this form of slip.
. In use the slip or statement is placed over the envelop so that the various items and columns will register, respectively, with each other. A carbon-sheet is then placed between the two in order that both may be made out at one and the same time, the statement being the original and the envelop the duplicate.
The statement is made out and issued to the employee, who receipts the same and returns it to the paymaster, who then issues to him the corresponding envelop containing the amount of wage, which will be indicated thereupon by the duplicate statement.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an employees wage-statement and playenvelop, a'slip having the Words Statement and N o. and a space at the top, appropriate items arranged thereupon near the top upon horizontal lines, other appropriate items IOO lo the Words Month ending and a space opposite thereto, dotted lines below the Words Month ending, and an envelop having the same items and columns thereupon with the exception of the Word Statement, the items andcolumns upon the envelop adapted to register with the items and columns upon the slip, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
