v TIME-CARD.
Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented Sept. 24, 1918.
Application filed February 15, 1917 Serial No. 148,793.-
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLINTON E. LARRA- BEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Time- Cards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvement-s in time cards, and is particularly adaptable for use in connection with cost keeping systems.
In time recording systems the workman is provided with a record card. On this card are certain rulings, defining spaces which are adapted for the reception of a printed time record or a plurality of such records. Other portions of the card are ruled to receive written records which correspond with and are correlated to the printed time records.
It has been the practice to imprint upon a card the beginning time of one job, the finishing time of that job, the beginning time of the next job and the finishing time. \Vhen a number of records are made on the same card of different jobs the number ofgrouped with the corresponding beginning.
or starting time imprint on the card.
I have shown my improved card in the accompanying drawing to which reference will now be made.
In more detail, the card comprises a number of vertically ruled columns, one of which is divided horizontally by a plurality of lines 10 which define spaces which are adapted to receive the successive and superimposed time imprints 11. Adjacent the time column and to the left thereof the card is ruled with intermediate horizontal lines 12 preferably spaced midway between lines 10. There are also 45 lines 13 which connect the extendedends of line 10 and the intermediate line 12. The rulings just mentioned define spacings 14, 15, in which are printed the words Start and Stop.
Intermediate line 12 is extended to the left beyond the angular lines 13, and these lines, together with rulings 13, define spaces ruled lines 18, 19, 20, and ifdesired, a further subdivision may be made by means of horizontal lines 21. It will be understood that any desired headings may be printed on the card as illustrated.
- The workman in starting receives his card from his foreman with the first job No. 12681 entered in the lowermost space 16. The workman then places the card in the machine and prints in the lowermost time imprint space, Mar. 16 7.0. 'When he completes the operation or job the foreman enters the record j ob #12428 in the end space 16. The workman then reinserts the card in the machine and by reason of the well known notched edge 22 the time impression March 16-9.2 is made in the record space 2%. This time imprint is the starting time for operation or job 12428 and the finishing time of job 12681. This procedure is continued until the card is filled. The time clerk then enters the elapsed times for the diiferent jobs in spaces 23. The entering of these elapsed times is facilitated by reason of the fact that it is only necessary to subtract the lower time imprint from the one directly above and enter the result in space 23, which is intermediate the two time imprints. The various rates and costs may then be entered in the right hand spaces, these costs being derived from the corresponding elapsed times. The totals are then entered up and the card can then be turned over to the cost department for the segregation of the individual items to their proper accounts.
It is to be understood that the card can be modified in various ways to suit different businesses Without departing from my inven tion, which is more particularly defined in the appended claim.
I claim: 1
A time card for use in cost keeping systems comprising a' series of vertical columns appropriately designated to receive respectively data defining job numbers, date impressions, elapsed time between uccessive date impressions and other items relative to such data and impressions, and a series of horizontal lines drawn across each of said vertical columns defining spaces for the dates or items, said lines being so placed that the space of each date impression shall by its position be common to or opposite each two adjacent job numbers, and each space for elapsed time entries shall by its position be identified or in line With one job number.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
CLINTON E. LARRABEE.
