Definitions
- each post is bored out, so as to form an opening for a rod C, having a collar C', and in each post one of these rods C is inserted, its collar resting on the top of the post, and as the collar isin about the center of the rod one-half of the rod projects above the top of the latter.
- D and D are stringers, each of Which is provided with an opening at each end that lits over one of the rods C, and the ends of these strngers are mortised, as shown, so that when placed over the post they Will be matched, and When they are in place they will make a rectangle with the post and its rods holding the corners of the rectangle to-v gether.
- E is a ridge-pole
- F are braces', each connected with a post.
- Each brace is made with a foot G, which is boltedto its lower end, and each of these feet has an opening through it which fits over one of the rods C, and then each post is connected to the ridge-pole by a hook E, and the hook of each of the braces is attached outside of the braces and engages witha ring E on the ridge-pole.
- the adjacent faces of the braces F, near the ridge-pole, are squared, so that when the hook of each is placed in its proper ringin the ridge-pole and the two braces are turned so that their lower ends may be placed on the proper rods the sides ot their upper ends will abut against each other and the ends will abut against the end of the ridge-pole, and thus the frame Will be braced in all directions. If deemed necessary, the corner-posts may be strengthened by stays H, as shown in Fig. 1.
- a ridge-pole having rings projecting horizontally from the under side of each end and diagonal braces arranged in pairs, each brace having a hook projecting downwardly from its upper end and engaging a ring ot the ridge-pole, the upper ends of the members of each pair of braces being matched or squared,so that they will abut against each other and against the end of the ridgepole when the lower ends of the braces are carried over the corner-posts, as set forth.

UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WHITNEY oRMsEY, or MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. i
TENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f" Letters Patent No. 471,848, dated. March 29, 1892.
Application filed November 2l, 1891. Serial No. 412,613. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom 1125 may concern: Y
Beit known that LJOHN WHITNEY OEMSBY, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented cerposts A, each of which has at its bottom a foot B, having a spindle B projecting up from it, which enters the bottom of the post, and through the side of each post is projected a set-screw a, one of which set-screws, by impinging against the spindle B of each foot B, holds it in adjustment, so that each of the posts may be made longer or shorter, as the irregularities of the vground may suggest. The upper end of each post is bored out, so as to form an opening for a rod C, having a collar C', and in each post one of these rods C is inserted, its collar resting on the top of the post, and as the collar isin about the center of the rod one-half of the rod projects above the top of the latter.
D and D are stringers, each of Which is provided with an opening at each end that lits over one of the rods C, and the ends of these strngers are mortised, as shown, so that when placed over the post they Will be matched, and When they are in place they will make a rectangle with the post and its rods holding the corners of the rectangle to-v gether.
E is a ridge-pole, and F are braces', each connected with a post.' Each brace is made with a foot G, which is boltedto its lower end, and each of these feet has an opening through it which fits over one of the rods C, and then each post is connected to the ridge-pole by a hook E, and the hook of each of the braces is attached outside of the braces and engages witha ring E on the ridge-pole. The adjacent faces of the braces F, near the ridge-pole, are squared, so that when the hook of each is placed in its proper ringin the ridge-pole and the two braces are turned so that their lower ends may be placed on the proper rods the sides ot their upper ends will abut against each other and the ends will abut against the end of the ridge-pole, and thus the frame Will be braced in all directions. If deemed necessary, the corner-posts may be strengthened by stays H, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Ina tent-frame, the combination, with the corner-posts and eaves-rods joined at their ends by the corner-posts, of a ridge-pole having rings projecting horizontally from the under side of each end and diagonal braces arranged in pairs, each brace having a hook projecting downwardly from its upper end and engaging a ring ot the ridge-pole, the upper ends of the members of each pair of braces being matched or squared,so that they will abut against each other and against the end of the ridgepole when the lower ends of the braces are carried over the corner-posts, as set forth. f
