SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,597, dated March 29,- 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ADOLPHE BOUOHARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Elmo, in the county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make'and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specifiasation.

My invention has relation toimprovements in corsets; and the object is to provide a corset which will fit the person without injuring the health of the wearer and which will retain and preserve the supported parts "in symmetrical and natural positions; and I ac- ,complish the purposes of my invention by the means hereinafter described, and which I have fully and clearly illustrated in the ac companying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view showing the corset applied.

It is the purpose of my invention, when worn by the persolnto maintain the figure erect without undue lacing and to keep the busts in natural, easy, and beautiful position of separation and outward direction.

The bodice or textile portion of my improved corset is designated by A and is cut by proper measurement to fit the person by rules well known to the trade. In the meeting edges of the front are secured the usual steel stays 1, provided with clasps for locking the edges together. The bodice is also provided with the usual sheaths for taking and holding the stays. The side stays 2, located under the arms, are bent to shape so as not to press on the body except at the point coming on the waist-lines of the wearer. The

The stays are, as usual,of steel-spring orbone and are made light and flexible and as arranged hold the breasts so that the beauty of the natural shape ispresented, and to effect the correct adjustment and fit of the several stays they are bent to fit a measured model before being applied to the corset.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I A corset comprising a body and bust portion having vertical front st'ays1 and side stays 2, vertical front breast-stays 3 4t, bent at their upper portions outward, as at 6, and inward, as at- 7, and arranged g n-opposite sides I of the center of the bust, the intermediate side stays 5, arranged between the side stays .point adjacent to the front stay 1 and to the intermediate side stays 5 and intermediately secured to the bent portions of the breaststays 3 and 4., substantially asshown and decribed.
